Saturday: Luna Rossa vs Ineos Team UK – 4pm start
Sunday: Ineos Team UK vs Luna Rossa – 4pm start (if required).ie if LR win Sat. race
Weather permitting, spectator-friendly Course C will likely use every race day for the rest of the regatta, meaning fans on dry land will be able to get good views of the action from a number of spots in the city.
"It became obvious to me, being here and living the winds, dealing with this on a daily basis, there's a very good area on Course C," Director Iain Murray said.
The Course will be expanded, allowing Murray to tailor each day's racing to the wind.
The move met with the approval of Luna Rossa's Jimmy Spithill.
"From a sailor's point of view, we like being on that course cos it's like a stadium."

after they start the ghost races if AM isn't on the course the race is awarded to the competitor there
doubt they'll even have to do half a leg

Friday’s scheduled round robin racing has been dropped, with American Magic unable to complete repairs in time to compete as planned.
Luna Rossa and INEOS Team UK will instead face off in races on Saturday and Sunday with start times on both days at 4pm.
However, with INEOS only needing one more win to secure a place in the Prada Cup final, should they win on Saturday they, along with Luna Rossa, can decide whether or not to race again on Sunday in what will effectively be a dead rubber.
Another quirk of American Magic’s withdrawal is the implementation of “ghost races” where Luna Rossa and Team UK will have to cross the start line in what would have been their races against American Magic in order to gain the point.

Interesting that in the presser terry seemed to suggest cutting out panels from defiant to repair the hole in patriot
Possibly also suggested in the early comment "we'll fix it but it won't be pretty"
Guess they don't care too much about the hydrodynamics at this stage
But considering the boatbuilding facilities in Auckland I doubt they'll need to do that
But if they think getting the electronics tested and systems settled will be the bigger challenge they will need to get back in the water again asap

i was happy to see to the end of the maunga police
hard to see how that's rates money well spent

She's got a m2 hole a mtr forward of the port foil....looks like they hacked it rectangular...pics to follow
-
The first boat still sitting in the corner covered in shrink-wrap...no one cutting it off yet
-
Nothing better to do so rode into dock. Lots of TV cameras waiting...cold crew coming back and hugging wife + kids

8pm "Race officials say they're currently towing the boat backwards because there is a hole in the bow somewhere. They expect it will be hours before it's back at base"
some big question marks now about what they need to do to rebuild her, particularly all the electronic systems and batteries.
team members carrying big bits of carbon hull off the support craft

over an hour later and they're still pumping OUT water
so presumably there's a spilt below the waterline, letting water IN only slightly slower than the pumps can get it out... foil-case when she did the belly-flop?
that big blanket/recovery sling could be there to try and cover an aft? split?
debatable that they can get her home in the light...
very lucky the conditions lightened instead of getting worse...
jib under bow covering bow split?

exciting!
sucks for AM not to get that win
after taking on so much water lucky not to do a 'one australia'
those bilge pumps better get hammering

Fantastic racing today
No predictions worth anything
Auckland's washing machine and wind shifts testing everything
-
the cheap 12mtr class was a short aberration in the looooong history of the AC
if it survives into the future there may be more cheap classes
but for the last 20? years have been loving the techno battle and all the "trickle-down"
hahahahahahaha

nail-biter
great racing!
but deano's done like a dog's dinner

yes, congrats to the brits
all that hard work of xmas/new year paid off
and the cup race has become interesting again
prada didn't look good rounding the city top mark and into the breeze at okahu bay
twice they followed ben round into the breeze and appeared to fluff it
the 3rd time, with the race lost, then went round the east mark and away from the gusts...

course C, the best course for land based spectators
so plan for north head, go early and be prepared to walk far

guess it's easier for them
but it's not easier for spectators to plan their day when the course announcement keeps getting pushed back
First race will start at 3:00 PM NZT weather permitting, exact time of the start and selected race course will be published on americascup.com and social media channels at 11:00 AM NZT.
pretty sure the teams were told yesterday morning

thanks, went down to the viaduct and got a bit of information from the yellow clad guides
as above plus ineos seem the only team interested in a semi-organised 1 on 1 race with etnz
prada and america magic preferred not to go up against etnz today
-
the usual websites currently don't seem to have anything up about today and tomorrow's races
the teams will already know
wonder when we will?

i guess that's the steel alloy foils humming at much the same frequency that steel alloy turbine blades hum

what a race!
ineos win, even with being unable to play the cunningham, so they get the 'immunity pin'
no race tomorrow and the italians need to find more speed
