  1. what are you trying to cut through and how thick?

the air tools spin very fast but you often can't use the speed in deep frp as the resin melts

most electric drills are variable speed now, you'll know when the little gearbox in the right angle is unhappy then you back off on the drill trigger a bit

  2. looks like more practice races monday, tuesday...but not much information on when and where yet

A compromise has clearly been reached and the Herald understands all four teams will have practice races on Monday and Tuesday before the challengers' boats are officially measured on Wednesday ahead of the Prada Cup opening round robin starting on Friday.

  3. A - it'll be ready hard to cut the shaft off

B - it may be very difficult to seat in a small 3 jaw chuck, you "might" get a better grasp with a larger chuck and/or wrapping the end with some shim stock

    ....

however if you're drilling to drill in a confined space this is what you really need, an air-drill with right-angle head and compressor?

  4. a bit like the stereo speakers of old

most people simply buy the biggest 'number' ....so check it's actually continuous

in this case aussie jaycar list this 1500w inverter as continuous

    https://www.jaycar.com.au/1500-watt-12vdc-to-230vac-pure-sine-wave-inverter/p/MI5708

note the comment on the input, which can be seen between the fans at back

Input connection: Heavy duty screw terminals"

    MI5708-1500-watt-12vdc-to-230vac-pure-si

unfortunately jaycar nz's 1500watt inverter doesn't list input, even in the manual, or have any pics of the back, but you can assume screw terminals

  5. the race director Iain Murray might be able to offer them a reprieve - with additional practice days if the harbourmaster and all teams can agree.

"I would like to be out there on some more days, clearly there aren't any days on the schedule at the moment," Murray said

"The days that I had pencilled into my diary were the 7th, 8th, 11th and 12th [of January] as maybe days that it might be possible but there is a lot of agreement needed on that."

    ...

Racing takes a break until 15 January when the three challengers will be back competing for the Prada Cup to win the right to race Team New Zealand for the America's Cup in March.

  6. yes, it's hard to go back to tv after you've gotten used to; watching when you want, hopping around the video, skipping the bits YOU think are boring and replaying the ones YOU think are interesting

Race course A will be used for racing today 20 December 2020 and weather forecast are for North-Northeast breezes and light winds between 7 to 12 knots with low tide at 18:45.

  7. today's schedule

    Christmas Cup schedule

    4.40pm: Race for 3rd (Loser Semifinal 1 v Loser Semifinal 2)
    5.20pm: Final (Winner Semifinal 1 v Winner Semifinal 2)

for days 1 + 2 found sitting on NH with good binos great, along with AM 1334 radio for commentary

then following up with youtube in the evening

may do the same today if it's C and better wind than yesterday

otherwise it might be time to wander around the viaduct

  8. back with C today

There was speculation earlier this morning that the light conditions would force organisers to shift racing to the less fan-friendly course A, however the same course as the opening two days of racing, C, will again be employed today.

  9. back on C

    great views fro north head

Friday 18 December 2020, 3:00 PM at Race course C

PRADA America’s Cup World Series Auckland round robin races 5, 6, 7 and 8 is on 18 December 2020. Find travel information and planning options for the viewing locations around Auckland.

  10. deano sailed a near perfect race -1? error

but etnz seem to have a slightly faster boat - let down by 5? errors

at this 1st day of official racing

i think i'd rather have the faster boat

    ...

just watched the video and it seems patriot was faster both up and down, but etnz kept catching up after their f$%^ups

so they must have been sailing better angles

  11. Fantastic day up here on north head.....weather perfect, tons of people but still place to sit with uninterrupted views....sir Ben had a major moment and almost tipped the boat over after a horrible gybe...but after a minute they got back going

  12. here's the official release

  13. we watched a volvo start from the water

got there early and got a good spot right up against the SPECTATOR boundary

just before start, a towering commercial gin-palace with paying guests anchored right in front of us on the inner  VIP boundary

council desperate to milk this for all they can

    don't expect much for free

  14. have heard it's course C today, but that won't be confirmed publicly til 10am

which means north head would be ideal

IF, you can get to devonport

presumably they want people to take the ferry and walk to north head

takapuna beach grandstand now advertising to watch race and have big screen for close-ups
