Lot to be said for Hutchwilco or Burnsco, I had a Hutchwilco that had been sitting forgotten in a locker for over 10 years without service. This was when the subject came up in a SSANZ discussion a few years ago, threw it in marina and it inflated immediately. I think that the bladders and mechanisms come from only a few suppliers, I really cant see the need for a manufacturers service as they are so simple, its basically blow them up and see if they hold air and weigh the cylinders. A visual once over and youre good to go.

I serviced two last year and was horrified to find the cylinders had completely unscrewed themselves in both PFDs after 3 years  . Regular checks are now on the cards

Need it for coastal too. Not all the boats do both SSANZ and coastal but plenty do.

Not sure about gold cup, maybe need it for that too?

It has its shortcomings but it makes it way easier for the handicappers to have a number to bang in to the system rather than pulling a number out of the hat based on hearsay or guess work .

Lime is the way to go

This is for quick turn around mate not a slow cooker scenario ….can just see the lime eating the liner as some poor sod leaves a trail of crap and sawdust through my boat on the way to heaving it 😳

    Good report then.

What about negative bouyency? I understand the sailing brand names are designed to be neutral buoyancy for obvious reasons any idea?

I haven’t been swimming in it yet but I imagine unless you have built in floatation like some of the Baltic jackets expect to have a tough time swimming in any wet weather gear ….always wear a PFD if you put your foulies on

Had anyone tried kaiwaka gear in anger here?

Yes . I have their stormforce gear that is now my round the farm and work gear and have a set of prototype sailing gear that I’ve been trialling with them . Both sets of gear do not leak , the storm force range is very tough but a bit agricultural looking .

The prototype gear is a bit lighter and more ergonomic and the zips are waterproof etc . One thing I got them to develop is bib overalls with an opening for blokes to take piss out of . My boat doesn’t have a toilet se wee have to piss off the transom …if you are in full kit this means taking pfd off , then jacket then bib off last . This is a mission if we are racing and also bloody dangerous as you don’t have pfd/harness on . It will also make taking a leak on a boat with a head easier too as you won’t need to disrobe .  The womens overalls will have vertical  zips on the waist to effectively allow the whole butt section to be a flap and I will leave the rest to your imagination .

really hoping this makes it to market this winter , as with every another business staff and supply issues have been a major handbrake for them .

  6. Whangarei looks like it may be the next haulout hub .  But the old port area is undergoing some suburbanisation …it could go the same way as Beaumont street in the future

we're going for the hard bastards award this year, taking the piedy if the committee will bless us with special dispensation for lack of lifelines

What suit will you be wearing ? 🤣

  8. Trying to remember what we used 30 years ago for thinning polyester , it was the same stuff you put in to stop it being sticky once gone off  …zylene ?    Or something similar sounding . It was called “wax” on the factory floor

  9.

I don’t know anything about your boat but a quick search Of the sail number confirms it is one of these .

hard to know what is worth without seeing it but these older 70s trailer boats have a ceiling of around 6-8k in good condition with a legal trailer .

If we are not prepared to accept mandatory education (and ergo licencing), the boating community in its many forms needs to step up and apply strong, consistent social pressure to improve on-water behaviour.

What about an app called “todays pillock “ you could upload the pillock of the day and other app users could keep an eye out and apply pressure to said pillock if they continue to be a pillock

So I ended up doing a complete antifouling 'facelift'. It cost me a month of our sailing season plus, of course, a bunch of money. I went for Hempaspeed TF which is not silicone based so this post is off topic.

Hempaspeed TF is a bit odd to apply as it is rather viscous and I found it would not flow to a smooth surface which is a bit of a dissapointment after all the work. It is glossy which is also a little odd for an antifouling in my experience.

It will be interesting to see if algae and barnacles like it.

    /Martin

PS It is my understanding that Hempaspeed TF is currently only released in Scandinavia.

Sleek looking boat Martin … very little rocker by the looks . What’s the design and where’s the keel/ centreboard ?
