I have been following the adventures of Rimas Meleshyus , a Russian American who has grandiose plans to sail around the world via Cape Horn in a $500 24" boat, that I personally would not sail across Wellington Harbour on a Calm Day.   2. haha while cheap by Akld standards it is roughly double what the Cost of a Marina Berth in Nelson is at present.
  3. Does the 3-2-1 rule of house renovation apply to a yacht refit? Take you 3 times as long as you thought Cost you 2 times as much as you thought you will only do it once? You certainly have taken on a major project and the hard work now begins. Good Luck
  4. Awesome info and tips! it has narrowed down the search hugely. I had also heard Lancers really good, but at around $3500k it is around 25% of the value of the Raven! I will keep a good eye out on TM. I was originally looking at tying the inflatable to the stern boarding platform but the bamboo "davits" idea has me intrigued and will look into it. That little plywood twin hull looks interesting BP, unfortunately I don't really have the time or space to start something like that!
  5. Hi all, I am now close to securing my first keeler (Raven 26) with an offer accepted and just awaiting Survey, likely to occur in the next few days. Much Excitement! Unfortunately she does not have a tender so I have started looking for one, and have found it a more confusing proposition than buying the boat! I am probably leaning towards and inflatable. Based more on the fact it seems they are the popular choice, but from there on I am a little stumped.
