That's the guy. You must be older than me

Haven't we just had weeeks of hearing bloody politicians tell us Northland needs economic growth and jobs. Seems that developing a container port at Marsden Point would be a great start???
BTW, I do remember as a teenager in Whangarei the Chairman of the Northland Harbour Board (yes children - once upon a time these things were owned by the people and were administered by elected officials who were held accountable every three years, how quaint) fighting to have the new container port built at Marsden Point. His argument was that it would outgrow the available space in Auckland and be a huge problem. He lost amid cries of cronyism and political chicanery. Seems he was prescient. Can't remember his name now - Barry someone??

Hmmmmmmmm

Regarding the results for boat ages, there is a sudden drop off at 30 years, so what happened 30 years ago that there were suddenly fewer (new) boats being bought??

12v blender for pina coladas?

Someone said on here a while ago which I thought was spot on. Dont second guess . Sail it for a season and it will all become crystal clear.
+1 Just go sailing. We are coming up to 3 years now without doing anything (as a result of the deal I did with the previous owner - we will own her outright in Oct this year). In that time the work list has actually shrunk as I have realised that what the designer and previous owners had already was working pretty well.

SInce Ketchup is on holiday, and just in case anyone else is interested, we did considered incomes/exchange rates and cost of living in our analysis.
-
Nothing personal here AJ, but my sister lives in the US and last time she visited we tried to compare income and taxes as accurately as we could.
We concluded Americans pay very much the same percentage of income in tax as NZ'ers do (albeit under different guises and different names).
But then they have to pay again for things like education and health care, which here are funded by taxes. As far as we could figure out the difference was your enormous military bill. Or in other words if you cut back the military spend you could offer free comprehensive health care and free education to every US citizen (and have quite a bit left over).

While I agree with you that this government is doing a crap job of running the country, I was comparing 36m with total govt revenue about 72 b, or 0.0005%, so a piddling amount.
-
I'm still curious as to why Ketchup is so animated over something of so little concern. Even the taxpayers money is a piddling amount in the greater scheme of things. Hell if I was going to bitch about govt spending I'd say stay out of the middle east. Go figure.

Lovely!!! you'll have to raft up one day - our names match.

Yes, I should have put a question mark after that, but they seem pretty positive they know something.

Hard to go past the Cav 32 really, particularly for a first yacht. You just know that boat will look after you.
If offshore is on the cards find one that has already done it, you'll get lots of extra gear for pennies on the dollar.
-
I lived on a Cav 32 for 8 yrs and 30,000 miles, single and double handed. Conquero was Pete Smith's (the builder) own boat. I liked the tall rig but that will be harder to find. You could do a lot worse.

As before IT, If I'm pushed I'll do it now, was intending to start doing things to the boat around the end of this year.

I like the composting one because it is cleaner and simpler. Maybe explain that to the family. How many times does one have to spend a beautiful day anchored in paradise disassembling a bloody toilet to think that there has to be a better way.
my wife hates the old one as much as I do.

I still think the airhead route is the way to go, you can ask me again in a year or so
-
Viewed objectively there is nothing more absurd than the usual sea-going toilet of the modern production yacht. What expense and engineering, what a profligate use of space and materials, what a baroque concoction of pipes and valves and pumps and skin fittings, what a sop to over-developed human sensitivities, all for the purpose of transferring a small amount of matter a distance of about twelve inches, from here on the inside of the hull, to there on the outside of the hull.

Still go with my very superficial analysis that they would have been safer staying with the boat

I know I am a million miles away and not there and don't know all the facts - but tell me again why they got off?
