  1. Because I will be moving with the trailer a sailer from harbor to harbor regularly to do filming of adventure and fishing missions and also doing a lot of land-based documentaries and interviews about places like campgrounds etc. and with people of interest I will not be full-time sailing and boating for the whole summer. My main concern with the two boats the 2 m and the 3.35 m inflatable's, both will have to be inflated and deflated regularly. I don't have as much experience with inflatable boats as you guys so could you please give me the heads up about whether or these boats can be inflate

  3. YUP, Thanks for all the advice, the trailer sailer seems the best fit for adventure projects as it is easy to tow between harbors and certainly more core effective without all the red tape that comes with a keelboat. 20ft Pelin Caribou 15hp Hidea Yamaha clone outboard with long shaft high thrust prop Aircat 335 inflatable with Suzuki 8hp and I just purchased a 1.8m PVC tender with oars.
  4. I ended up getting an 8hp for the inflatable and a 15hp with a high thrust prop for the Trailer sailer. I have been out in some good blows and was very happy with the extra power of the 15 even though it weighs nearly 100lb, luckily it doesn't seem to upset the balance of the boat. And the economy is just amazing. I visited Every harbor except the Manukau from Auckland Northward. Had a fabulous time and met quality people every day. I'm looking forward to Shooting many YouTube adventures on my return to NZ in October.
  5. I Parked My 20ft Trailer Sailer at Whangaroa at my friends orchard on Saturday morning then drove to Auckland and said farewell to family, on Sunday I parked My Camper in Albany then flew from Auckland to Shanghai overnight, then took the fast train arriving at Guangzhou midnight Monday and got home 1am on Tuesday. Fresh as can be today haha.
  6. Perhaps this 8hp motor would be okay for the sailboat but an underpowered compromise for the inflatable, still it a short shaft.
  7. I need to buy an outboard for my new OLD Pelin Caribou 20 trailersailer which has an adjustable outboard mounting bracket. The last owner had a 9.9hp Johnson but it was left in his garage and got flooded a few months back in the bad weather. I would ideally prefer to get a short shaft 15hp so I could swap it between the yacht and my 3.3m inflatable. As I am living in a motorhome I don't want to carry 2 outboards around everywhere. Can the 20 trailer boat function with a short shaft and will the 40 kg motor greatly impact the sailing performance? opinions and advice wo

  9. Americans have the handle on boat ramp fails they seem to know exactly what not to do and do exactly that.
  10. That's a unique way of running a red light, Transport department will issue a ticket for that infringement for sure
  11. Just to let anyone who was interested know I ended up purchasing a motorhome and a Pelin caribou 20 trailer sailer which in the end I think will serve me for my documentary work. Although a keeler would be lovely I backed off after finding out about the incredible amount of regulations that come with boat ownership these days. Thanks for the advice from the group, you helped me a lot!
  12. I arrive in Auckland next week and would like to buy you a beer, I would really appreciate some straighteners and pointers and a chat about boats and stuff. If someone has time please message me on this app, Cheers.
  13. Frank Thanks, that’s enlightening, you say boats need to be insured when entering a marina for a stay, so the insurance regs apply to vessels wanting to birth and enter certain zones at marinas, but uninsured boats can pump gas and have access to some facilities as long as the do not enter those zones. Something like this? I am fully intending to insure the boat but need to understand parameters. You mention, once on a mooring same biofouling and insurance rules etc. Does this insurance rule apply to privately owned moorings? For example, a trailersailer needs to be insured to
  14. MANY THANKS!!!!! Imagine if I hadn’t had these conversations, I would be a lot further up delusion creek and I am now. I’m becoming painfully aware of the extent of the bureaucracy and regulations in New Zealand. I know the days have long gone when you could nail together a ferro cement boat with chicken wire and hope and head off overseas. Perhaps it is a karmic relationship, does anyone remember the French Canadian guy that built a ferro yacht and attempted to sail to Australia only to crash into a reef on the way? It was big news at the time 50 years ago, but it was instrumental i
  15. I ABSOLUTELY agree with all of your points and appreciate you taking the time to share!, And I just love the point you make about not being able to make the bad boat good for less than the good one is asking price. I cant afford to buy the good one, and yet I can’t afford the bad one either. Boat size has shrunk to 32' + depending on what fits, see I am kinda listening and learning. So yes I need to take my time and know when to make the right offer for the right boat!!! I do believe there are really a lot of well maintained boats out there amongst those that are on the way
  16. Just a couple of examples of prices NZ compared to China, the power station cost the equivalent of $880 NZD in China The top of the line e-bike costs $475 NZD in China No import tax, just the cost of shipping and port fees, as I'm relocating back to NZ I have to pay household goods shipping anyway.
  17. Good thoughts Mattm, I will carry out all the work myself as I am a retiring product designer and have a reasonable amount of experience in these kinds of builds. I spend, spent a lot of time (18 years) living in China and can source these product resources and ship them to NZ at 25 to 50 percent of the cost of buying in NZ. NZ retailers have to source from exactly the same suppliers I have access to in China and then they ship, store, advertise, and pay employees, taxes, commercial rent and have to make profit on top of that. With the free trade China to NZ the greatest expens
