Watched on "Netfilx" The Australia 1983 campagin. Was it really the keel or did they manage to just get under Dens skin??
From SA post:
‘’The whole Australia II (A-II) package was incredible, from Benbobs innovation, Bertrands determination, Schnackenberg’s sails, Bondy’s money & foresight, plus a dedicated, talented and thoroughly professional crew.
BUT, for my mind the reason A-II got up on the downwind leg allowing them win the race was an absolutely brilliant tactical call by the tactician Hugh Treharne. Hughie spotted the shift that DC didn’t, took the punt & gybed into it and then A-II were in front at the bottom mark. The rest is history. No amount of a “great package” could make up the large deficit at the top mark by boat speed alone. It was tactical…
Side note about Hughie : A-II had a slight speed deficit downwind because their spinnakers were sub-par compared to Liberty’s. Hugh Treharne, a sail maker himself, eventually took over the spinnaker maintenance and spent many a night re-cutting all A-II kites, somehow making them more stable and draw better like Liberty’s were. A-II was notably faster down wind with his re-cut kites.’’ -

On sort of a related tangent.... why am I starting to see trademe adverts for mooring rentals saying you need full insurance! To rent a mooring!! For f**ksake... one of the main attractios to getting out of the marina for me would be that I don't have to eff about and pay insurance for my 70s classic plastic that isn't worth insuracing other than to satisfy marina red tape. These moorings were in the Mahurangi area btw
If memory serves me correctly Ngataringa A4 suffered extensive damage whilst on a mooring as the result of a collision are you capable of paying for the cost of such repairs if your 70s classic unfortunately slips it’s mooring and damages another craft maybe some insurance would be prudent.

Fullers have no competition, you know free market and all that. I think Auckland would be better served with a model similar to NSW with a govt transport agency overseeing the show and competitive bidding for services.
Fullers CEO on RNZ today suggesting that this is their preferred model with the public providing the vessels etc and them not having to upgrade the aging ferry fleet just becoming operators of the services.
The one thing that surprised me is the 20% contribution to air pollution the ferries make in Auckland considering the bus fleet appears to be running on coal.

Who is actually going to operate these publicly funded ferries my guess Fullers at a profit making peppercorn lease with no release of the deal struck due to commercial sensitivity.

Here you go;
Do we need a fundamental rethink here, good questions about who "owns" the fishery.
Yup a bit like who owns the sand “he who has access to supreme legal weight and the ability to take”.

Same in lots of industries here, Supermarkets being another
IMHO it’s because of a history of a few large companies dominating the market and when a small guy starts they first try to strong arm them out and if that doesn’t work buy them out so they can maintain their large margins, they say it’s our small market but this is bollocks, lots of small countries around the world are cheaper in lots of ways than here. Mostly isolation that allows this but then again French Supermarkets in Tahiti are cheaper than here and that’s for food from NZ
Try buying Gib Board what a clusterfuck with Wistones holding 94% of the national market.

Only good point is that Vantage is a good looking Kiwi design.
With a pillock of a owner.

The whole install reflects neglect and obviously needs some love and attention it's all fairly basic stuff .
A marine diesel needs clean fuel fresh air and good oil along with a clean heat exchanger plain and simple stuff really that could well save your bacon on a dark narly nite.
Whilst you are at it drain the fuel tank and change the belts.

$728.50 per month for a marina berth directly impacts on the value of Young 88 like most craft.
