Poukaraka flats nice but very shallow just off
Mahurangi great option but a decent distance if no motor

its during the day you get sick on a boat not at night at anchor in sheltered bay, this will never work, take her out to izzy bay etc etc.... its not practical to setup camp every night. Its flat in most bays at night that are sheltered

that big storm last year that was forecast 35 but was 55-60 was a classic i was using the main light on matiatia wharf as a mark until the power went out, too a good few mins until the emergency power came on, i was sliding 10ft an hour that night

When i am really scared, I watch it with my eyes, normally though its a very straight line on the chart slow drag like 2-10ft an hour in 40 odd knots etc... if you are slowly dragging.
Another tip is i set a way point as soon as I am hanging to anchor and then set chart plotter to go to that way point. it will say arrived straight away, say accept.... now it will read distance to go to the way point giving you a pretty good total drag reading that you can instantly access even when only half awake while doing a 30 min snooze alarm cycle, having to wake up fully to access how far you have moved is annoying. Often the slow drag will solve itself after a few hours if you hit something solid

my quadrant needs a sand blast and repaint, I was going to take apart and remove the linear drive , sort out out, then reinstall quadrant , it looks worse then it is.... but still needs doing.. once thats out be easy to get at the linear drive... also my old computer was installed above engine nuts... going to install new one in the rear quarter berth with all wiring running direct to that point for access at sea. Got a St4000 wheel pilot of trademe as a backup, going to install that first while I plan the main install.... will be fine around the gulf.
main drive is the Simrad HDL2000 its fine in a bigger sea but errors on small movements, could be the rudder thing but as have no heads anymore may just find the drive is fine as is. Hasn't seen any love for 10 years
where my drive attaches to the quadrant is very mickey mouse as well, going to weld on a stainless thing (currently nut job) which the linear attaches to....

I think the existing seam has to be removed with heat, leak patched then re glue the seam.
Can be done at home but probably better for a pro job if the rib is in great condition otherwise.
sand blasting vs....
