Gently chaps, gently. The unemotional facts are that 1] 95% at least of people on the water are reasonably sensible, and sometimes make mistakes through ignorance. I certainly have.

2] we always remember the odd one who really gave us a fright.

3] yes, its a pity that there is no size/power limit for people buying and operating their first boat. MOst of us have worked our way up from dinghys to keelboats or launches and therefore mostly know what we are doing. let's not lable whole groups because of a few idiots.

Well said but one point missing,is the racing yacht fraternity which think its there god given right (in some cases) expect those anchored.Be it in a yacht or powerboat,to pull pick so they can continue sailing out of the tide so not having to go about and there is also those running under kite, creating a wake sliding down the side, less than 50m doing more than 5knts. Faults on both sides. Guess the blame game needs its own thread.

What is it about launchies and generators? Anchored in Bon Accord last weekend, a launch anchored about 50m away and as soon as main engines off, it's generator on until his bed time. Then in the morning, routine is wake up, generator on, left on until anchor up. Have these guys never heard of batteries? Another time a launch anchored about 20m upwind of me, started his generator and then the whole crew went across to a neighbouring boat for the evening. They just seem oblivious to the nuisance they create

You forgot the "beer in one hand, fishing rod in the other"

I too detest the 'Boatie' term.  I detest 'Boaties' full stop.  I have no respect for anyone on a stinkpot.
But, unfortunately, the term is embedded in the media.

I have trailer stink boat.why time constraints.Yacht would sit on mooring unused for 2 to 3 months unused.Trailer boat in backyard cost nothing.would like a trailer sailer but can't be arsed rigging it for 2 to 3 hrsuse.there us a handy compound at kkb but need to live south of the Bombay's. No beers until home and majority of catch is given away to elderly neighbours.Who can afford $50 kg for snapper??

Okahu bay is now stripped of moorings so not a bad city side spot

I believe there is no anchoring in Okahu bay due to the re seeding mussel programme ,quick search confirms.

The area where the mussels are located in Okahu Bay are marked with orange inflatable marks. Based on this, there is to be absolutely no anchoring in this area, as doing so will damage the work that has been done to get the mussels in position.21/12/2021

  5. On netflix now.About a young (16) yr old girl do a solo round the world trip. Sydney to imaginary mark on the Equator down to cape horn, acroos cape of good hope up to mark Indian Ocean around outside Tasmania back to Sydney. 270 days?Nice yacht "pink Lady"

Not much of a film but I have question.  Big seas, bare poles, with a drogue out. Do you run it from the bow so head to wind. She ran it out off the stern and Im thinking waves would push her around and water be inclined to mount transom.

Good News, the PHRF requirement has been canned and they're using racetrack and whatever other means they see fit.

That should double the entries right there.

It's a great idea and it would be terrific to see all the non racers out there once a year but I'm not sure they'll turn up at $150.   Cross fingers.

But thats what the entry instructions already had..

Its all true , and the local emergency services were lining the shore waiting as she drifted in , not having enough grunt from Tugs is something I didnt think would occur in Wellington with their history, I guess the Lloyds man will be enquiring why the cooling system is common to all four engines?

I thought be best seeing how the tugs couldnt tow in to the wind, way tow back to picton?

I asked the owner about insurance and he has it already. I'll have to ring the company to find out if if can be transferred.

Need it to be hauled out or even rent a marina now days. Not just hull for survey/rig and sails + motor    Not idea what sails cost today but a new main and jib 6 yrs ago was close to $5k rig?? 26ft.

  10. $400/500 pw hard stand fees + repairs unless you can get it home.

Work out the costs to fix + haul out fees. Remember its only a $1 reserve so will go for a lot more, might be better off buying existing, one that you sail now.

They were, if they were not they couldn't appeal.  Perhaps more should offer to help the few that are fighting for us all.

Why not petition the council along the lines of sports fields are upgraded etc for free ramps are our sports field. Once again wake up and realise we are a minority sport and viewed as elite.

Good on you for trying but I will not be financially supporting already paying to use AK ramps etc

It's not over yet,  the AYBA (Auckland Yacht and Boating Association) has joined the fight along with the support of the AMUA (Auckland Marina users Association inc.).

The first is to appeal Bayswater as by doing so this will also help the case for The Landing and other sites.

So please consider making a donation here and perhaps add "crew.org" after your first name.

Thank you for your replies. I really appreciate the response so far. I have read all that stuff. And I also followed those requirements when I sailed across the Tasman to here last year (with full insurance).

My query is whether insurance is actually required. I can't find any mention in the Transport Act 2013 (I presume is the latest).

While the ANA requests insurance information, what happens if that information not supplied ( Eg self-insured)? Is entry denied? And can it be refused? Is that requirement legally enforceable?

It seems a little interesting that a yacht might arrive here with full insurance, but which runs out say 1 month after arrival and then does as much sailing around etc for the next 23 months with no insurance (including risks of salvage, pollution, third party etc) . And nobody (except marinas) takes any notice. If there is no legal requirement to have insurance while operating here, how is there a legal requirement to have it in order to gain entry?

    Thank you for your thoughts

Seems strange sort of a requirement to me.Yes when entering a marina or slipping, but how many local vessels on moorings with nil insurance?? I found out the hard way several yrs ago, vessel that took us out,nil insurance and comment from owner,go "F" yourself. Had to make claim on mine, dont know if they ever chased him up.

    1. Complete the Advance Notice of Arrival (ANA) for all craft travelling to NZ as required under the Customs and Excise Act 2018

The small craft/yachts Advance Notice of Arrival (ANA) form (DOC 284 KB) needs to be completed by the owner/master of the vessel and sent to us at least 48 hours before arrival in New Zealand territorial waters – 12 nautical miles.

The ANA is a mandatory legal document required and the owner/master is liable to prosecution for not submitting the ANA in the required timeframe and for not providing the ANA in the specified form and manner.

Other documents to supply with ANA

The following documents must be provided and emailed with the ANA to yachts@customs.govt.nz:

    • Certificate of Registration
    • Scanned copy or photograph of bio-page of passport for all passengers and crew on board
    • Full photograph of craft/vessel
    • Evidence of Value e.g. Bill of Sale (Purchase agreement with sale price) Note: If evidence of value cannot be provided then a Marine Insurance document or New Zealand Valuation will be required at the time of import
    • Marine Insurance (full insurance)
    • NZ Boat Valuation (at the cost of the importer)

Aucklands papa cliffs erode quite quickly, its probable that these were built well back initially.  Cliff top properties in Auckland are vulnerable

We were intersted in a house over looking tauranga harbour late last yr,GV 1.8m,We thought y the time we organise finance etc it would sell well above,If was in the AK viaduct it would be easy 4/5m. After a bit searching found a oncil website that showed errosion rates for area, they gave it a orange status of 80 yrs before it would be unstable and condeemed. Sold for 1.3m.   Maybe time for agents to disclose this sort of stuff.

As ex shore boy,Dad always said only time (1970s)before the houses along the narrow neck/st leonards region fell.so far holding up. Bit of a surprise about shore rd though.

Can see insurance companies bailing out or premiums through the roof.
