Thanks all - kind offer alibaba but I need the long short version, and I have secured one now so all good!

For future reference, its a Chatfield Engineering item, good NZ product from the North Shore.  Chrome over bronze, solid af unless you don't lube the hinge...

Knock the pin out and replace?

  2. my orininal salthouse 26 came fitted with a 3 blade and a spare 2 blade, swapped them over and 2 not as efficient  but drag was less, now the 2 blade ,marked shaft so blade be verticle and locked in gear. Found out quickly not a good pratice better to leave in free mode. Went back to 3 blade. not a big difference sailing cruising but would hinder if racing

If you have the time its not that hard, you can get white gelcoat and a can of styrene wax plus any pigments from NZ fibreglass supplies in Glen Innes, they will give good advice too. Theres a few vids on it https://www.boatworkstoday.com/videos/gelcoat-color-matching-part-1/

Its pretty much trial and error, holding the sample up to the area in different lights adding pigment until you get it. Application is easy, usually brushing it on, then sanding back through the grades until you can polish it.

yes that where i got my pigments from, nzf panmure, black, yellow, red, trying to mix a yellow/mustard 70s colour, ist batch not bad, brushed over scratches, but where there was major chips they advised to add balloons mirco and thats when it went bright orange, looked good but when dried nah, will sand it off and try again.

will give it another go. Funny asking at the chemist for syringes and explaining what I needed them for. 100ml resin + 2ml hardner gave good working time.dry time was about 4hrs

It's been done. Very little mnz could do until the boat returned to nz, then went to court. The offending skipper had done it deliberately to protest the imposition of cat 1 on foreign vessels

The court said MNZ were breaking international law and they were dickheads.

I believe that although they stopped the practice the rule( 21?) Remains on the books in case they want to be dickheads in the future.

Sell the boat before returning or register offshore once off shore??

  5. I still wonder what the powers to be would do if you said nothing and aimed for the barrier and kept on going? Might be difficult landing at next stop.

If MNZ were serious then they should have the powers to stop any vessel that arrives here from leaving without cat 1,we still send out snr to them

  6. need cat1 inspection.for overseas departure.  I personally believe should be able to sign a waiver. That you will take all resonable steps for your safety and expect no search n rescue should it go tits up ,but no the powers to be want cat1 etc

Wasnt there when columbus/cook etc went circumnavigating why do they think a lot has changed??same water same risks

  7. I personally would say forgone conclusion that it will close. Just going through formal motions of appeals.Bit like the ramp/apartments at Bayswater. Bayswater has been before the appeals board, now been modified with no further discussion for the public.

Set up a practise rig on the deck at home.  Good thing.  I got stuck at the top (only about 60cm off the ground) from a failure to think about how to go down.

Sorted now, and Mrs A only chuckled a bit.

    I have not heard that?

There are some marinas that will not allow in water cleaning, but those rules were in place since the marina was established. Eg, Pine Harbour and non-private berths at Gulf Harbour.

Vessel hull cleaning Not permitted in the Marina, except by a registered diver who is only permitted to remove a thin layer of slime

Guessing thats means no removing fanworm/barnicles etc

Good stuff Psyche....I know guys like BP have paid their dues with the small boats over the years so what I am about to say has no relevance to the likes of him....but what the hell is wrong with people that they can't put up with a bit of discomfort (which the joys far outweigh) putting a Hub, Wifey, and three kiddies in a Raven 26 for 2 or 3 weeks over Xmas?  Do you really need the 45 footer you use twice per year, then take up space in a Marina in an expensive berth..... something is seriously f__cked with the (no pun intended) 'psyche' of modern people.   In my experience, without a bit of 'suffering' (if you call squeezing your fam into the aforementioned Raven 26 over summer 'suffering') then nothing in life, let alone sailing, will be worth it or retain your interest.

My old mum reckons that the world is gone soft, trying living through the 2nd WW soon after the depression - all we can do these days is get enraged over pro-nouns  -- gee life must be tough if we can spend time arguing about that rubbish (not that I want to turn this political, but you get my drift).

All you need to do is look at T/M with silly questions for a raven 26 or simular. Does it have a shower/hot n cold water etc. Think these are the ones who really want a caravan but dont want to use caravan parks;-)

My 26ft had a shower.Solar shower in the cockpit, hot water ,if you boiled the jug

  11. Waikeraka park 10.30pm curfew   Western springs limited meetings   .What I want to know is when is that dam zoo going to close??You know lions might roar at 10.00pm.

Bugger me all this was there before houses and those that were there went to these places. Now the people see the value of them and move in and want things gone.

St Marys bay prime example, nothing there except bailys shed ,marine shop and a fuel jetty, occasionlly one of Drommies ferries might of been on the slip. pre 1985.

Out way by the Karaka horse sale yards they have built a bloody "Hilton hotel" bugger me its Papakura. Then they developing the island. Still got to drive through the crap and southern motorway.More money than sense

Okahu Bay hard stand was not established until c1945-46, & was created from mud pumped from the surrounding seabed. — I recall seeing this in progress c1945-46, & this image, had to have been taken, almost certainly, in the winter of 1947, as the launch with the man alongside her, I do not recall the name of, but she was owned by Mendel Spitz a Newmarket pharmacist, who lived in Ngaiwi St Orakei, & the yacht alongside her, is the MIZPAH by my recall, & was owned by a Tommy?????, a Waterview Pharmacist, — ( must have been a lot of money in Pharmacy in that era).

I support efforts to restore the marine environment and Okahu bay has taken a beating over the years so it deserves some love. The problem is not removal of the hardstand, it's providing an affordable alternative in the city if they do shut it down.

Joys of boat ownership. hence why the trailer boat market is buoyant compared to moored. Being treated as elitist.

That is the strange thing. There is a park just few hundred metres away!

The Okahu bay Marae want to restore the foreshore back to its natural state.Hence the mussel dumping thats been going on.Restoring or trying to restore what was there before europeans arrived, mussel beds/cockle beds. Moorings been removed etc. Was there not talk awhile back that the RAYC might have to move??
