Noting you can anchor in any CAN you want at any time as per the CAN notice, Schedule 2, Clause 1 (c)

"no other alternative safe sheltering locations or mooring can be easily acquired"

Oh, and the reason MPI has given for allowing anchoring in the Waiheke CAN is because the caulerpa is dieing off naturally. Who would have thought nature would just sort itself out? Just like fan worm and the other 2 dozen or so invasive species that are listed at the moment.

Died off or just stopped looking for it?

Yeah agree, and I am not saying stop sailing in boats with booms lower to the deck - but there has been a spate of these type of accidents, and just wondering if any design rule or something re the boom height - could be implemented.....

Have seen more novice crews standing in coiled jib/kite sheets.Had one young ,not enough turns on winch.Puts hand in to hold.Yep figers turn around winch. simple mistakes but could be costly

Absolute tragedy, and my deepest sympathies to the unfortunate sailor's families.
Are we able to design rigs with booms higher than the average persons height standing in the cockpit - maybe 1.90M+ ?

I can get run over crossing the rd if Im not carefull, where do you stop? Accidents happen in all walks of life. work/sport

  4. Sails drives seem to to be a major concern, hit something and you a large hole, continually here seals leak, cannot see how they would be less drag than a folding prop on a shaft with a strut. For the price you would expect them to be built proof.

    20kg plough

last 2 vessels had ploughs and never trusted them . Had more than enough chain.,I seem to find that can/bottle etc never dug in even added more chain. The only time it set was in Man o war only to find next morning we had hooked the cable to pakatoa, managed to retrive it. Ended up with a kewene ,no issue.

Thinking about using KiwiGrip on the Morby sole is it possible to refine the finish ie less stipple?

Depends on how much pressure you put on roller. Have a play first. It's good stuff the grip.had it on cockpit floor now 2 yrs holding up well.

  7. Use to be a thing back in the 70s at Westhaven, night of departure of overseas vessels(they were allowed to live onboard back then)vessels would get broken in to,mainly safety gear taken/alcohol

Unfortunately those that break in to vessels taking panels/fishing gear/electronics etc are on selling to other boaties, who can resist a deal right? Often look at fishing gear etc at cash converters and think yip wonder that came from. Boy brought a locked laptop from them, figured out how to unlock, saw all the photos and found a name in laptop, quick f/b search and posted on page, turns out stolen 6 months earlier. Cash converters couldnt give a toss.

  8. Covers lifejackets well according to sail instructions.

RULES 1.1 1.1 The event is governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing. 1.2 The Yachting New Zealand Safety Regulations 2021-2024, Part 2, Category 3 shall apply with the following modifications: a. I skippered a tug for BHP for a number of years with twin Ulstein asimuthing drives... super manouverable even without a bow thruster.

I have a gut feeling this will come down to a maintenance failure as has been so prevelent in many such cases in NZ in recent years.

Remember the issue the navy had with diesel bug recently.
