  1. never mind an electric pump when the water is over the floor boards. I would be wanting a bucket or a manual whale gusher pump, bilge pumps are fine from experience when located in one place but when you need a pump in hurry all sorts of debris float along and get sucked in,next minute pump stopped.

  2. Ah ha, that could explain my current WTF in trying to work out who some of the mystery craft are.

Remember when the guy at rnznsc had the 18 footer "wang"and reckon he could beat the record as long as it was a reach

  3. KM there poses another question,"skipper is responsible"?fair enough. But how does ynz/mnz etc know what my capabilities are?I may never of sailed or even been on a vessel till last week ,until I brought this vessel. So begs the question if I have no experience and the powers to say no too giving me CAT1 due to lack of experience. Would it not ended up in court  under human rights?

  4. Considering you need CAT 1 to clear customs, I think your wee protest will run in to heavy bureaucratic "weather", especially when trying to clear into where ever you are going.

Would possibly be a good way of getting on one of those drug smugglers watch lists and have the full monty tear the boat apart search every time you try go anywhere thereafter.

Don't dissagree the system needs changing though, thinking perhaps a petition or general lobbying might be a safer, easier and more effective avenue?

The yacht "Your Honour is my home .I didn't like the neighbours so I moved" ;-)

  5. 1/4 of nz departures results in 1/3 rescue why? inexperienced crews/skippers due to yachts being inexpensive, which leads to my thinking that every man thinks he can go offshore with no worries, just need to get cat1 and away little or no sailing experience.

We have all heard the stories of,mate she was a cake ride to fiji etc

Would I contemplate going offshore in my own vessel without going with an experienced crew/skipper first?NO

Perhaps there needs to be some form of bond/insurance to cover rescues?no I do not think so gives the airforce something to do and lets the navy put in to practice what they have been taught

  6. Use Oxalic acid. Does the same thing, really easy. Its whats the active ingredient in many of the stainless polishes. Buy a 1 kg bag from bunnings in powder form, use a teaspoon of the powder in 500 mls of water. Spray on, or wipe on with damp cloth, wash off with water after 10 mins.

Asked for it a year or to back and no one knew what I was talking about, tapped in oxalic acid bunnings nz up it popped, its in the gardening section

  7. How many search and rescue operations do our airforce/navy undertake each year??

How private NZ registered vessels leave NZ each year??

Be interested to know what the ratio is between those venturing offshore requiring assistance compared to those who potter around the gulf or venture around NZ.

2017 coastguard brought 6797 people home safely.

  8. Johnny Wrae sailed how many times to Raul Island with limited food/water no Cat1 survived, have we lost seamanship skills??

What is so wrong departing NZ with no cat1 if you sign a declaration stating you are of sound mind and if you fail to turn at point x by a certain time you accept that no one will be looking for you??

Mid 70s a guy at work sailed/raced to Tonga with all the latest toys onboard, missed Tonga by a day.

  9. Quite amusing reading the comments on the article, from no licence required to obtaining a licence then you are issued a call sign??really.

Should put in a operators hut like the old viaduct basin use to be before developed.Be a cushy job for me

  10. What a lot of people don't realise is that a large number of yachts on the harbour are worth a lot less than a second hand car.

Interesting with yacht price, how they have fallen to give away prices, yet the trailer power boat holds it price and fuel going up all the time. Now are trailer boats preferable now days due to low maintenance no mooring fees, lack of spare time etc???

  11. www.alibaba.com/product-detail/The-price-of-a-small-fishing_60625107765.html?spm=a2700.7724857.normalList.5.41003c30ZSWM0G

They do exist but I cannot find a yamaha dealer in NZ/overseas who has them.

The above site has afew but would you trust them??yambisi

  12. Did a bit of a search and what are the ports of Auckland Auckland council or Panuka on about

Queen mary 2 berthed at Queens wharf on her maiden voyage and she is 1132ft or 345m

The largest cruise ship at the moment is Symphony of the sea at 1188 ft or 362m (yet to do nz)

draft would be the issue 10m alongside AK wharves

  13. The only issue using the Musik Pt channel is that the  launches have no regard for 5knts rule,go through anytime except 1hr before/after spring/king low,as above if the rock shows by the pole marginal, when in/or out on low tides keep 100/200metres away from poles and you find its soft mud,any closer and its a shell bank.Spent an hour there once grinding the shells and not one A hole slowed down,if in doubt follow the ferry track.
