  1. :D Yeap I can see the bureaucratic logic in that.

Lucky for me I can, and do, recover all fines I regard as bullshit from the organisations that give me them. While doing so I recover twice the amount to cover my inconvenience. I do not recover the cost of 'fair and reasonable' fines though.

Any Crew.Orgers wanna own up to having that happen? Not speeding but similar. I know one should ;)

I won't mention Hartley 16's, having a dump over the transom, Deodars spotlight and hour after the Masonic Tavern closed.

Maybe same said Crewer may wanna explain what happens when you're shitfaced and ride your pushbike, at pace, straight across a good sized road without stopping to check and then straight into a brick wall..... all of it 20ft in front of a parked and loaded Police car. Hmmmmm... in a not overly surprising coincidence that one was just after another Pub closed for the night.

There is more, equally funny, but that's enough to start with I think   :D

Well we are talking about 38yrs ago and yes was funny and Jackie still said no but I believe she may of said yes to someone  on crew.org

I have aged gracefully got it all out of the system by 25  But I can feel a resurgence coming on in the not so distance future and ,No you went there, bugger the night we visited The Velet Touch and did a runner but you know the 2 other culprits

  2. From another site

I was T-boned by a yacht this arvo by rakino,
if not for my quick thinking fishing mate, we could be on the news tomorrow.
We anchored up not far the rock at rakino channel,
there were lots of yacht mooring up, coming in and out as usual.
Not long after, my fisho mate saw this yacht coming straight to us at low speed.
My first reaction was standing on top of the boat to get skipper attention but I couldn't see anybody so I started yelling and screaming.
As the yacht getting closer, my "not so useless after all" fishing mate asked us to stand by the side of the boat and said try to push the boat away/sideway as the yacht hitting us.
Everything happened so quickly but 3 of us managed push it off by just a scratch on my outboard cawling and some sore elbow.
Finally yacht skipper popped his head out at the back and keep saying sorry and apologizing.
I'm very tempted to report the incident to harbour master but at the same time I'm glad nobody was hurt and I learn few thing new today.

  3. I can confirm no rain but damp drizzle up in Broken hills ,Tairua side of Coro, excellent tent dry, cooking in slosh mud sliding 2 eels 1 trout, bloody good 2 days with wife and boys. next week off to tapakainga, actually enjoying this camping stuff,

KM remind you of the old scout days??At 55 still fun.

  4. right t ho. We have established that my house battery is stuffed.Over the last week or so have had it on the trickle charger 2amp apparently,Tuesday night it read 14.25 volt,Wednesday morning it dropped to 12.8v. So we took it away camping and had the waeco set +3 or 3 green lights, anyway everything was cold.never turned it off and today Friday midday thought lets disconnect the car battery and see what happens, easily jump started the diesel  2.8lt car, when got home it still showed 12.02v so the purpose of the exercise was to see how long I could run a waeco without charging the battery,so far impressed. next time which should be Tuesday next week will take the amp meter and measure the exact draw current, not I but get the student to do it..

  5. Wasn't it Fred Ladd who did it twice in a Grumman Widgeon and was some kind of folk hero in non PC time?

Fred did it on the day of retirement from memory,Which reminds me of a tale about freddie in Boi,taxied out and couldnt get airbourne,a passenger said"theres water coming in the back door"no problem,Yeah but Freddie its your bag. Soon got airbourne

  6. But really this anchor ball , what happened to looking at the anchor warp from the bow , so if I was in a bay of anchored boats and a launch hit me I would not get insurance , what a load of crap

May seem like crap but gives the insurance an out?  What about a vessel drift fishing, would it need to display 2 black balls from memory. Not under control? Long time ago since I did boat masters, must do a refresher course one day.

  7. Boat/skipper licencing and registration will eventually happen,

    More mishaps more likely

i was reading on another site about a person fishing Rakino way and a yacht with no lookout or on the helm almost ploughed in the side of them, they started motoring with anchor down to avoid collision,so its not just power/jet/ yachts.

  8. Hi Paul

Thankyou for your email regarding the concern of the speed vessels are transiting the Tamaki River. Unfortunately we are already aware of this issue and have increased our patrolling of the area. We have often requested that the speed restrictions be passed on to people using the dry stack and have left brochures advertising the fact. We are looking at other options for enforcing the speed restrictions.

If you can supply time and photos of particular incidences we may be able to follow up with the owner.

    Kind regards

    Brenda

The Dry stack for vessels based in Mt Wellington on the Tamaki river have no respect for the 5knot rule. Sending big wakes on to the foreshore and making it very difficult to pick up my mooring or leaving vessel via dinghy. Have emailed the Dry stack company direct but no response.Off the Panmure wharf is a several rowing clubs and it is only a matter of time before someone gets tipped out of their skiff. If no successful response next step will be Maritime New Zealand who have absolute power over water users. Thank you Paul Carnahan

  9. Km how many really comply?? correct lights showing regardless of position is better than no lights?

seen a few fancy launches at the boatshow and their nav lights were right back on the end of the cabin side,so in effect about 25ft back from the bow and were proudly displaying msn numbers.

  10. Even YNZ rules are not clear

    www.yachtingnz.org.nz/sites/yachtingnz/files/YNZ%20Safety%20Regulations%201316%20FINAL%20Revised.pdf

19.07 NAVIGATION LIGHTS To be shown as required by the Collision X X X X X Prevention Rules to be permanently mounted and wired so that they will not be masked by sails or the heeling of the yacht, and are mounted above the level of the main deck. Side lights mounted into the hull are not acceptable.

Navigation lights on all boats shall be fitted no lower than the height of the upper lifelines.

Seen a good number of yachts where the nav lights are recessed in to the hull.   I always understood that lights are to be 1 metre above the waterline.

  11. Think I have found it??

Australian but why would it not cover nz??

  12. Went and viewed the D28,Hmm like VB stated keep looking, wont go in to whats right or wrong, but if you got for $5k and spent $10/15k you would a good yacht which means buy one at $25k going sailing!.

So now next Saturday going to make the trek to Coromandel ,have spoken to the owner who does not want to sell but needs too for reasons explained to me.

  13. 10hp is not enough, the old had a 10. Went north on Sunday, rang owner he sang praises but very disappointing, went further north

and again disappointing.Wish owners were just honest and not post photos from 2 yrs ago. Will go and have a look but no rush,Saturday might end up in Coromandel,on trade a boat there is a trogan 750 keel version.Looks rough but $$ seem right.

    Going down Tuesday morning.

What should I look for? engine sails, growth?

    Thanks in advance.

  15. The problem with masthead lights is just that ,a masthead used when motoring faces forward, where as anchor light is a all round white light,  Mine did not have a all round white light,so i hung a all round led white light under the spreader away from the mast and yes very visible even when after some lemonades.

No doubt will have the same problem going to Mahuranga at Anniversary weekend,Too many mastheads making it difficult to find the mark boat.

Masthead lights shine forward in a 255 degree arc and must be at least 1 metre above the s

Every boat at anchor must show only a white lig

On boats up to 12 metres in length, white lights must have a range of 2 miles and sidelights a range of 1 mile.

  16. Did the last spray job, around the gunwales due to the added (glassed on) stanchion bases, transom and rudder base was done this arvo.

Just realised it was started in gloss, something happened, it was finished in low sheen.

    Not happy!!

    Too humid?

  17. Hardly any fish all summer. Ran out of bait. Put some stale pancake on a hook and got a snapper.

Feeling sad about the expensive box of fishing sh*t down below.

moved from bait to the new fancy soft bait craze , funny or stupid fish are eating rubber.but seems to work no mess!

  18. run best on a 10;1 oil mixture, new ones ran 25;1 but didnt last, something to do with engine bushes??

The I had ran on 30/40 oil mixed 10;1 would still be going if the bracket didnt break going through tiri passage and dropping off, might still have part of the bracket somewhere.
