  1. "Romany"Mine is the same, but just 3/4 of body under water and the water is not that warm at 5.30pm off sunday rock.Yep in reverse.Bloody wife keeps telling me to watch the dinghy.Do I ever listen NO

  2. Ok I have 3 lines from my dinghy,2 outers control it and middle one just incase.I had some kevlar 8mm short ends left over and used them. Now the problem was last Sunday when ,not consentrating, wrapped one line in to prop shaft.

The question is ,what knifes do you have onboard to cut such rope in an emergency?I ended up with a hack saw blade, slow going but achieved result.   Should I have floats on line just keep dinghy tied up short?

  3. I am thinking that I should stay with internal,no biggie to disconnect inlet and blow back should the problem arise again.Saturday strong incoming tide with lots of debri so guessing I was unlucky.

  4. +1 for what Wheels said. No reason I know of not to have 2. I have 2 - sort of - I have a sail drive with 6 smallish holes for cooling intake iirc, then it goes to the inboard strainer. I've had a plastic bag round the leg once that stopped the coolant flow....

We were just talking about sail drives Saturday night,Have such small holes my friend is thinking about putting a separate cock in so as to get maximum flow to motor, any issues about not using the sail drive pick up??

  5. I wore an inflatable in the wave pool (with the strap) - it was the most bloody uncomfortable thing ever and I think I would have a better chance of surviving with out it. Just MHO.

Took a group scouts to a wave pool, through a l/j in and said"now put it on"what a fail, now they respect why they put it on first.

Would never ever own an inflatable. A)did I puncture it with a hook? B)is the can going to work?

C)if i am unconscious whose going to blow it up for me?

  6. Finally got number 1 to go windward in the light, slow learner(3yrs) made a temporary barber system and it worked, now to buy the right gear. no1 seemed to long in foot,so by attaching a string to clew and using inboard track, foot fell inside life lines and set perfect went from 1.8 to 2.3 on gps,it was light 7.00am this morning off the sisters

  7. Ok as in one of my posts here I have an inboard strainer,No strainer on out of hull.

Last Saturday while out fishing off Hooks Bay we went to motor back to Man o war, noticed not a lot of water coming out.No alarm checked internal strainer and had water.

Went for a swim and found weed stuck in intake, removed weed and full water flow from exhaust.

Now the question is,Do I remove internal strainer and fit external strainer, apparently you cannot have both?

    Any thoughts?

  8. After arriving in to North Harbout(Ponui) around 10.30pm snuck in to clear area, dropped the pick and yes clear of the launch(small ship thing),on with dinner, everyone laying the same way but the thing astern talk about sail around. So picked up anchor moved to be last boat, reset, great sleep till 5.00am,the thing must of sailed more than i thought as there was shouting etc from the thing and a vessel who was astern. Can only presume the thing must of payed out a lot rode/warp,great arces.

  9. How many snapper do you need? Seven per person sounds like plenty to me.

used to be no restrictions on numbers then we dropped to 30 to 15 down to 9 now 7,meanwhile the tacc for comms has not moved, they have stayed 25cm meanwhile we went from 27cm to 30cm

7 may seem plenty but we do not keep our limit as they go to the elderly who cannot afford snapper

limit your catch not catch your limit!

  10. had a mate sailing back from Kawau last weekend, sailing, keeping frequent lookout, saw a fizzer fishing, adjusted course on auto, looked again a minute or two later, and still on collision course. Now realised fizzer was drift fishing, and adjusted course again, only to be sworn and abused when he passed.

Asked my opinion, and all I could say was sex and travel. So whats the rule for drifting non anchored power boats? I always come across them in the harbour

and had wondered what if the worst happened, and what the rule is? Half the time these drifters have their engine running and move for whatever reason, so its hard determining if they are under power or not?

From memory the drifting vessel would be deemed a vessel not under command and you would give way, regardless of having motor running. As we would have to assume they have a problem with their propeller.Same as a yacht on port tack with no way on(drifting)you on starboard making way you would have to give way.Forget about the racing rules, the international collision regs would come in to play.!being on stb must hold course and other vessel has not made a manoveer of iintention(changing course) then you must give way.(followed by a 2 finger salute).

  11. Harry, I used to change air filters at the beginning of each season regardless of if it really needed it or not. Another thing is people tend to under estimate the importance of good airflow to the air filter, too often engines are hidden away  in a box with no thoughts given to having an adequate supply of clean air to the engine. Another possibility in your case might be fuel, check filters and maybe consider having the injectors looked at but good to here the speed is back up to a more realistic  figure. it would be interesting to test the boat out in 25 knots with a lumpy sea to see how this performance increase helps in a choppy sea.

changed oil+filter and fuel filter, had injectors looked at,no problem there, motor maybe getting tired and noticed a club member with same problem has taken kiwi prop off and gone to 2 blade folding, but we will just have to put up with what we have for the time being.motor sounds better and appears at this stage to be pushing 6.5,little less throttle but needs a scrub again.

  12. just a sample, the pink areas will/maybe the reserves and could include up to 1 mile from anyshore line that Doc have control of.

In effect there could be no fishing from rangitoto lighthouse across to Takapuna or 1 mile out to sea around rangi/motutapu motuihe browns island. The Mokihinui maybe covered western side of coville tiritiri matangi. Can be seen as an inconvenience to recc fishers but may install abundance once commercial seiners/trawlers are out,on the other hand we may see more longliners as trawlers convert over.catch22?

It would nice to think that in 10/15yrs we could have more stock than we know what to do with?

Goat island reserve is way to small to sustain growth and breeding does not take place within the reserve. It was set up originally as a research centre.Yes there has been poaching both sectors, the crayfish have moved on due to lack of fed and crays do go marches and hopefully this is the case and some will return.

There huge untapped tourist potential in our gulf if stocked ,where else could you go 1hr from your hotel catch a fish photograph it release it  to caught again and again, unlike the commercial sector catch it once and its gone.Who knows a tourist may pay $100/$150 for the experience?comms get roughly $3 per kg snap and $1.10Ky/trevally to be turned in aussie cray bait.

I am keen on fishing and would love my Grandchildren to have the same experience in 20/30yrs.

  13. KAWAU BOATING CLUBNORTHCOTE PO $20.54

No your right I paid $2.054 per lt 10 lts is all I got in my can, from my bank statement and is was the only thing purchased on my card, shower was paid cash as %20 was all I had for 4 showers(4 of us)

I was a member back in the "Shoemakers"day as we were up there all the time

nowadays prefer bottom end/coromandel as not so many crazy gin palaces charging around.

  14. Attended a meeting last night on how "Seachange"will/wont work and it will not go ahead for a simple reason.MPI want to double exports by 2025 when trawling is suppose to exit the gulf.

The Group who came up with the plan are commercial fisherman or have commercial interest.Farmers with big Fonteera shares.Yes there will be no take zones which may or may not effect recreational fishing.Areas will be closed down to fishing but that could be a small price to pay when we are talking about abundance for all.Ahu Moana is the sticking point for most recreational including myself until it was explained how it could work.Basically IWI control the foreshore and out to sea for a mile. The bonus could be if we work with IWI on things like tempoary closures of certain beaches and when stock improves could be reopened but IWI may put a set limit on it from our legal daily bag limits, for it to go ahead mpi would need to agree. The concern last night that IWI would close access off to all.But if we worked with IWI and they Guaranted access for say rock fisherman or the small dinghy owner who can row out 200/300m without impdence then I would support IWI descions. The only way forward would be DOC to come onboard and force the issue re damage to seabeds etc.

There is a lay mans version of "seachange" with FAQS coming out soon and I will post when available.

I was totally against all reforms until last night and those involved for recreational explained the full process.End of the day if we want to get abundance restored even areas closed off that we consider our right to fish in now.Recreational Fisherman/woman need to put difference aside and support what is being proposed.Enough support MPI will have to think again as they have already lost one battle(Will not enter into at this stage)Mr Goodfellow and his money will not win if we unite.

Down Tauranga(astrolabe reef"rena") a solo judge ruled in favour of local authority that they have the right to protect the seabed from trawling under the RMA but mpi will/have appealed and is going to the supreme court where 3 judges no doubt will find in favour of mpi and resume commercial activities

Hope this sort of explains where recreational fishing/diving is at.

  15. Was at club last week and Did not join as we very really go up to kawau. But needed to buy 10lt diesel members rate was $1.49 and non members $2.49 ripped off I feel, water was $1 per minute non member. But did not feel begrudged the $5 for a nice hot shower after day 5

  16. Ha Ha "Scottie" reminds of the 1970s at mansion house bay.loaned my "P" out to a boy named Shroder,?this kid in a dinghy kept buzzing him,now Schroder not being the shy type whipped the tiller out and proceeded to destroy the outboard cover.end of problem
