  1. when you work out the costings like that you can see why the trailer power boat market is still fairly buoyant, take home wash down self maintenance minimal costs and no worries when its blowing wondering whether the mooring holds or your neighbours mooring.Would I change from owning my yacht NO,I hate towing.

  2. The boat is sitting on the 3rd party's beach causing damage. So I would have thought the insurance company would pay to have it removed.. I always thought that was a part of 3rd party cover i.e the boat sinks in the channel or goes ashore.

I am wrong obviously. Luckily I have full insurance: so hopefully if that happens they will fulfil that part of the contract.

Very surprised the council/harbour master has not stepped in and said remove or we will remove and bill you?can only guess its doing no environmental damage just a eyesore for local residents?

  3. I wouldn,t expect third party insurance to pay anything that directly relates to the boat but to pay for any damage that it caused to other property, which may cover environmental damage?

same as 3rd party car insurance, pays for damage to other vehicle/property only or fire and theft

  4. Hard to tell from current photos but at a guess and whats sitting on tm right now between $15k and $22k

The market for boats is regarded as a luxury item for many now days with the house prices,I know I want to sell my boat and i know what I think its worth to me $15k but current market I would say $8k so its not listed but I do not need to sell.

  5. But you need to look at this in reverse or TT. Guy owns boat. Circumstances change and guy tries to sell boat. Boat does not sell. Can't afford insurance anymore. Boat still won't sell. Can't keep in Marina because not insured, so now on a swing mooring. Price at give away and still can't sell. What do you do?

stick it on for $1 t/m deal, buyers would of decided whats it worth.even if he only $20k better than what hes got now.

Even David Bain has a givealittle page $11k and has not been found not guilty

  6. There was a yacht in shoal bay hanging by the buoy rope,Knew who the owner was and rang him and he said what should i do? suggested to run a line from bollard down to ring back to bollard and make several loops until you get a mooring hook, next hard easterly and yep she broke the buoy rope and under the bridge.

  7. might be a problem to remove even after repairs, she went ashore on a 3.2m tide and tides are up to 3.2m till 6th september then drop and do not rise till 17th september,so guessing arc or harbour master wont let her stay that long. Strange though if he want 60k originally why would you not insure it??

  8. what to put on wheel to avoid fouling?tried anti foul, lanolin, grease

it is almost hard against a bulkhead and so remains inside hull and only put in when making a longish passage. thought about moving it but another hole and a patch.

  9. Is it normal to paint the exhaust?

Mine looks a little rusty. Do you treat it with an anti rust paint, or just wire brush, clean and undercoat?

give it a good tap to make sure its still solid, ours looked rusty but felt solid till 11.00pm one night we decided to motor and it decided to part company, amazing how much water goes through a engine in a short period, ended up disconnecting water intake and put hose straight in to bilge, basically recycling water

  10. Do you really need to go back to bare wood?more inclined to use sugar soap with a poly pad, sand then wash.I would not try a heat gun near glazing nor use paint stripper.

If are going to go to the trouble of taking glass out might as well take doors to a painter who has a acid bath.

  11. i'm no pilot

but as vindil only draws 1.3m and has a new and powerful engine

at high tide i'll go through the east passage, if the pine harbor ferries are

follow their dip into the estuary, to avoid the mud-sand bank south of brown's

it's pretty narrow between the red + green channel markers and can get busy with boats so use engine if needed to keep to speed above 4kn with a good eye behind for staying out of the ferries way

    your mileage may vary

spring low yesterday and we need a 100mm more to get through, sat bumping away with every bloody boat going past for a 1hr,that was between green/red marker, draft 5ft,worked out well sort of,by the time we got free and on mooring club open.  just checked 3.5 tides normally we are ok on 2.9/3.0m tides, first time i have seen rocks exposed by red marker. musick pt.

  12. typical club scenario,we have 400 members and decent amount of members own yachts, yet come race day we may get only 6 for a harbour course but river racing can get 10. I am guilty as do not race in the river often.cost sails gear etc prohibative as it is hard on gear.Do the occasional harbour race(just to make up numbers)crew seems to a issue Most of races are on Sundays due to work commitments.  Use of club house same old 30 members, drink driving has killed it a lot, couple of beers out sailing and home?  We are a bit different in that we have a haul out yard and a lot join just for the facilities.
