  1. ok time to paint decks, what to use?anyone had any luck with acrylic paints and special roller? want  to go to a grey,as beige/deck cream never seems to stay clean.Going over the top of a grp deck that has anti skid patches.thanks

  2. Being the Brave sole that I am,waited till she went to work and used her carpet cleaner on the front runner and yep looks real nice now, squabs at and she caught me and took over(bonus)engine painted so interior all done, next weekend hopefully paint decks.

  3. After using the yacht for the last 2 yrs, thought must be time to clean inside,if it removable it came home, pulled out stove and yep not the most pleasant job with what was hidden behind,i am sure last owner never cleaned there or crawled down quater berths.

Tomorrow attack motor and bird sh@t on deck

  4. Have a yanmar that's showing signs of rust etc

Want/need to paint in place(removing not a option) what's best?degrease first, wire brush rust areas    Now what primer to use?? top coat Vht paint?

  5. My only other comment would be to let your son sail what he is interested in sailing.  That is likely to be the same boat type as his mates are planning on sailing.  Don't look too far in advance as there seems to be a natural drop off point of about 16 years old where the kids start finding things other than sailing to interest them.

Yep mine started in "p" at 10 yr went to starling at 12yr,5ft 11    80kg,to a sunburst, now 16yr ,yeah if you must go out today(keelboat)i will check with mates first. starting to show interest in  PT.  6ft 2     102kg

  6. because triangle is weaker, weight-for-weight?

just thinking that with tube unstayed, once you get a slight bend in it,easy enough to kink but then again  vessels been using tubes for years, guess that's why mast is not triangular :wtf:

  7. we have all chain mooring with a eye, through the eye i have hook with chain to bollard with a doubled rope from eye back to mast, mooring rated for 10t and my boat is 2.5t so do not think it will move.top of panmure river.3 yr inspection, was looking at bucks till insurance co want 18month inspections due to ferry traffic.

Had a mooring years ago in torpedo bay and with the arrival of the quick cats mooring wore out in 2yrs

  8. what can I put around to stop the shags without hurting them?hoping cooler weather they will disappear, took dodger off for repairs and that's when it started, going to put dodger back on but need to remove stains, will try oxalic acid. biggest problem not using vessel as the old house moving trick and she who must be disobeyed has stuck her foot down hard.

  9. what is the best stuff to remove shag poop?never had birds pooping on mooring before but last 6 weeks has become a nightmare, water blaster removes but stains staying on deck. and yes there is ropes strung for n aft with rags. do not want netting incase birds get caught up.

  10. ok i buy a boat and know nothing  about cat1 or anything what can/would the powers to be do if i just sailed off with no intention of sailing back to nz?have me arrested at next port of call?

As Chrisc writes, i am attempting suicide so no charges? If I want to waiver my  s and r so be it,by the time someone realises i am missing it would be to late to notify authorities?

look at Johnny rae just did it!

  11. I rather silly back in 1986,took a hartley 16 from kawau to gt barrier,se 15/20 knots,no phone or rt had flares,i knew the risk and just went, if the ynz/maritime knew what i was doing could they stop me?? I do not see the need for cat1,you want to sail off fine with me but sign a affidavit first.  no difference to me racing and signing the form saying i conform to cat 3,only time i would get caught out is there was an inspection or possibly the sh@t hit the fan would the race authorities then be in the gun for accepting my entry??

  12. I am of firm belief that if you want to go offshore it should be up to you.But sign a affidavit?stating if unheard of in 8 weeks no search to be conducted as I have taken all steps to protect myself(in the event of a solo sailor)Did Captain cook get a survey or even have charts? What about Christopher Columbus set out to find the new world and prove the earth is not flat?the list goes on.

If our authorities are so concerned with kiwis heading offshore why do they not step in the cases of overseas vessels which are not equipped properly?yet we still send s n r out to these guys.

I know of a crew in a reactor back in 1979/80 era who did the tonga race and sailed past for  3 days.Their Skills obviously not questioned. This appears to me to be a case of discrimination against the elderly by a self represented body who has achieved or done nothing that involves risk. To satisfy the inspector would a medical certificate be enough?

Who's to say yes your vessel is cat1 and you seem fit for the journey, little do they know that i am riddled with cancer and this is to be my swan song.
