  1. whats the problem with liveaboards?free security.Maybe draw the line hanging up nappies.Oh thats right, living for next to nothing while rate payers pay millions for same view.yes the 1970s were great at westhaven seeing overseas yachts and dreaming that could be me.

  2. I know it has been raised before but what about the led flares?ok not approved by mnz or ynz but having pyrotechnics rolling around in locker is safe? hell of a cost if you keep replacing them as required every 3 yrs.

  3. had thought of going up to the north head tunnels after hours and letting my old flares off,let a parachute off  a few years ago, only just expired, went up then sideways in to neighbours brick house, needless to say they weren't home and sculted inside and turned out the lights.beer n flares??

  4. came in to north harbour at night a few years ago now, twit on a launch put his spotlight on and kept it on blinding me,no problem aimed for the light and ran in to his stern and said "Thanks @#$% for blinding me" no more conversation after that.

  5. under the flare topic I posted a tm seller who is a charter operator selling out of date flares by 3 yrs, have asked tm to remove as this in my opinion dangerous, buyer may need them and do not work, am i correct for telling tm

  6. I thought that young woman was never found? And no trace of either. All very odd.

But back to the topic - buyer beware if you ask me. Maybe the potential buyer is a super gung ho boat guy, a kind of maritime Bear Grylls?

Hard to say without a link to the auction Brendong - you haven't said if the vendor is maintaining it could get to the south island or not.

correct never found but some fisherman did get a body in a net around the same time but rolled out.

now as far safety is concerned i might be capable of taking my yacht south ,yes it would make it, but if someone else brought it it and tried and failed would i be liable?I think not as i do not know their capabilities.  The question was, will it make it to south island trader answered Yes.    Being on trademe and a private(not in trade sale) no guarantee act or come back would apply.

  7. very simple rules around what is/not allowed, declare it regardless, let mpi take it away for free.Hide it bad luck pay the fine.

if nz is serious about biosecurity, every container/car would be fumigated. We have a transitional facility at work and yes containers have been opened and bugs crawled out, doors shut and await mpi, meantime the bugs that have escaped have gone where??

brought a tent back from aussie went to fumigators and we got it back 2 weeks later, put it up in backyard and watched the bush cockroaches scatter.paid $200 for what?

  8. The Titanic let a load of flares off for what??

Last saturday night a clown at motuihe island was letting fireworks off and did anyone notice or tell them to stop NO,so would it be the same result?(we were too far away)

nephew let  a flare off once as he needed assistance, boat went past and waved.luckily a guy on the beach rowed out and helped.no cell ph coverage.

  9. stuffing boxes should leak a little when motoring, done up tight and your putting wear on gland, about 1 or 2 drips a minute.

when you changed the raw water impeller did you do the bearings and shaft seals??

we had water and thought not the damn stern seal again,on closer inspection water marks around pump so changed impeller bearing and shaft seals,no more water.  On sunday found a small leak on engine anode changed and resealed so all good now.

  10. As much as I am against parking fees,on Wednesday/Friday night race days or weekends. Why not have issue a permit for a minimal fee and if displayed outside those times or exceed parking time limit then tow away becomes enforceable?

Just as a means of stopping CBD all day parkers.

  11. from memory, the copper coat from the 90s was a pack resin type, when cured you had to sand resin off to expose copper and i think we gave a rub once a year to keep copper exposed.   the last boat had copper coat on and just water blasted it,4 yrs on and stills seems fine, initial expense stops me from doing current vessel but may  have another look?

  12. A friend was just telling me he has an app on his phone that makes it call another number (his wife's phone) if the GPS notes he moves more than x metres. Uses it when he goes ashore, if he drags the boat calls him and tells him.

Sounds like a good trick, anyone else know about it?

I can see the app being useful while onboard, being ashore alarm goes off,by the time you get back boat aground?  I would not use with 2degrees thats for sure as reception around coromandel is hit and miss

  13. i use the concertina type (lazy tongs)can be used one handed,as before right tip for rivet, never had a issue using alloy/ss/monel.

2 hands are best, hold base and push with other hand, just keep fingers/thumbs out of way

  14. unfortunately with the older boy,15,has lost interest a little when brother is onboard,13,but no2 is willing as no1 sleeps 24/7

if its just no1 and i he wants to go ashore, particularly se side of motuhihe at night looking for kiwis, often heard never seen,

3/4hrs sailing seems to be the rule, kawau can be challenge for both, now have plan for both, give them a course and tell them need to do something down below, thats when i have a snooze but poke head up to how its going.they seem to enjoy it a bit better.  tried at xmas your boat i here as observer/cook bit of a failure as no1 sloped off leaving no2. must admit though boat bit small now so could be part of the problem.
