thanks "wheels" i just hate having to get up in the middle of the night for the clown next door. I prefer to here a strain on warp in a blow at night, when it goes quite that's when i am on deck hoping that wind had dropped.
-
Anchoring in a blow!is it best to anchor out in the true wind so there is constant pull on anchor ?(which I prefer)or seek shelter and with every gust feel the load been taken up on warp? 15lb plow with double the boat lenght of chain and then i let out 3 x depth,so i have a shallow pull. Am I correct? had a issue on monday night under Whanganui Island, constant pull but swing arc was a bit more than others as I tried to explain to other party I was here first or has that gone out the window?

thats the beauty with chatfield/kiwi seals as fitted via flexible hose a bit out of alignment is not a big issue but best to get it right.

Had a yacht at clevedon back in 1998,still got growth, inconvenient as tides never suited, drew 4ft8 and 2 hrs either side of high at entrance, plenty of water in river though.piles $200 pm at brookby?

thanks for info.now begs a question,if on finance through a udc type company they would have a registered secrurity over the vessel?how would you know if money was owing until someone put a notice on vessel?
so with the current laws/regulations you could sell anyone a boat pocket the money and the fight would be between original owner and new owner, seller could scraper?
what protection is there really?
-
Have you searched ynz for owner,my understanding and stand to be corrected,,whose name appears with ynz register is the legal owner?
-

so I take it from above comments that marine industry is in good shape to be able to be closed for 2 weeks, yes there is things we should do before holidaying but when away and need a part to get home is the issue.
-
who cleans there teeth?nah remove reuse or better still give it to her?
-
noticed today in our area we have 3 outboard shops and 2 marine diesel shops all closed to 5th january, must make good money pre christmas. Even if they offered a after hours number with surcharge?as most are owner operated.
-
Why is it at this time of year most industry repair shops are closed?outboard shops in particular.Sure they have families etc but what a opportunity time to make extra cash and increase customer service. never understand why they shut in the height of the season.
Diesel shops etc
in our industry we are no holidays until january the 10th customer service, grab now as in winter we struggle a little bit.

And what would the outcome be if it was a overseas vessel?,Yep have this boat registered in the netherlands, what a load b/s,as said before epirb goes off,sat picks up signal,s nr go out find boat/vessel end of story.

I like the chatfield seal due to the fact if it should leak you can undo the flange bolts and pack with stuffing box material,

Ok from bottle to stove must be in copper but can have flexible connection so stove can gimble?
Bottle to be in locker with 19mm drain? so my bottle on deck can no longer drain over the side in case it leaks??
Who are the boffins dreaming this stuff up?what do they us to do,go back to kerosene/meths stoves use camping type gas canister stoves??
wonder if they would like me smoking within 5m of my stove or diesel tank?
Oh by they way when my stove is not in use the bottle gets turned off.

NOPE NOPE NOOOOOPE Please NO.
I used to think this to, and there are times I still wonder if this would be better, BUT one of the joys of living in this country IS the ability for those of limited means to jump in a dinghy and experience something special.
The exception I'd make is for fizz-nasties and jet-skis - those buggers can, and do, real harm. But how do you Police this? - anything over a certain HP you need a license?
The kids trailer-sailer has an 8hp o/b but a 12 foot tinnie with an 8hp will do a lot of damage quite fast and this size boat, in my experience, is usually owned and piloted by the least competent, most likely to break the rules person.
life jackets onboard fine, how to wear/fit? where are they stowed? yes agree with you last of the free domains but reality is last 2/3 yrs there have been several near misses and a couple of collisions so the time is fast approaching for at least day skipper course? There is absolutely nothing(apart from money)stopping me going to a broker buying a 50ft launch or trailer boat capable of 40knts with no idea on how to handle it,untie at say bucks marina, once through break water put hammer down and create damage.when caught/stopped or hit something the excuse is quite simple i don't know just brought and no one said anything about rules,go to court and get?
-
before they even think about compulsory wearing of a lifejacket, how about the powers that be in force every skipper should have a licence to operate a vessel?
gee i had my jacket on but didnt know i had to give way

Had a Davidson m20,roomy safe but slow, with a good motor into a decent headway they are like a tug boat, bow down and keep on going,we found with a reef in the main they did drive better to windward,15knts and a no2 on,family safe trailer boats

time to update my flares, after seeing led flares on here went and had a look at same at a marine shop.look great read the detailed yep seem to be the go,then remembered what was written here, right ring coastguard unsure,ok ring maritime nz and spoke to a lady who said yes we are still in the process as to the suitability of them as a replacement,at this stage they are non compliant and do not know when they will be accepted.
At the shop advertised as replacements for pyro flares.Have since rung shop and their answer was "well they accepted in the usa so we assumed from our supplier they would conform to nz standards".
Back to square one buying old technology pyro flares.

once repacked and not dripping,go for a motor and back off gland till you get a drop or 2 every minute, keeps it cool and when stopped should not drip 200mm is all you need for dripless seal,i got one this year of chatfield marine $600 fitted in hr,best to do out of water though.
Interesting situation

on my last week away I did trs for the simple fact, cell phone coverage by 2 degrees is rubbish in the gulf,my thought being if wife needs to know where are c/g can give them our position. having a 15/13 yr old boys onboard who can sail/start motor etc but really have no idea where we are, still teaching how to read a chart, should anything unexpected happen to me,stroke/heart attack at least c/g know we left position A heading C via B,gives them a starting point.
after lodging tr always tell them listening 16 to cut out chatter.
