  1. Agreed. Our club has dicussed that we secede from the union. We pay a large amount for very little in return. The 5 ring circus eclipses every other avenue .There is a token visit from Regional rep occasionally for centreboarders. Nothing ever for keelboats. We are a cash cow  for YNZ  Take away the Olympic funding  and there's the conumdrum for the executive so they have to focus on medal count for their own well being. I think we pay $35 a head . For what ?  Half the members are social members but YNZ has that one covered. Not to mention double and triple dipping for people who belong to more than one club. But YNZ will continue to ignore these murmurings until .....well maybe this is the start ?

  2. No wonder. About 20 tears ago an ex Transit engineer told me to not drive on the Nippon Clip ons. Once the Greenies get cars banned there will be the biggest waikways and cycleways  available you can imagine. Methinks the Harbour Bridge has reached its limit ?

You can go much smaller than 12mm but you are going to be limited by the size and working load of your clutch.

At the highend you can do end-to-end splicing of sk99. I did a 4 to 5 to 6 to 8 to 10 so we had 10 at the clutch and 4mm up most of the mast. The 4mm is 3000kg breaking load - which is rediculous unless you regularly hoist medium sized sedans up your rig.

NB: I recommend getting this professionally done if it is even remotely possible that you'd hoist a person up the mast on it.

SK99 is going to give you the best performance but at the highest price point.

Vectran is a great choice for a cruiser/racer at a slightly lower price point than SK99.

This is imho an excellent halyard:

Hi  KM....would you hoist a  crew (or yourself )up a spliced main halyard as described here.... ;4 to 6 to 8 ?

  4. I was more referring to NZ papers. They long ago stopped printing items regularly from o'seas journos like Gwynne Dyer. Too much quality and accurate informative detail. RNZ = Red Radio

  5. Yes....a mate had  a local giveaway rag. He reckoned the free press had died in Miraka Honi (Nz) 25 years ago. I  too would love to know those 'balanced' publications

  6. Good job. We banned the Herald from our home years ago. Read about GD  in the local cafe and what a terrible person the Herald says he was/is  I must be a terrible person also because I really enjoy the spectacle provided by ETNZ and GD is an integral part of that. IMO the Herald is a 3rd class gutter rag and why they would pursue a hatchet job defies belief except their editorial policy/journos appear to be radically leftie woke socialist syncophants. GD is a toughie and I'm pleased he came out  of the hit job with his credibility intact. And he'll reap the benefits,as he should do, when ETNZ retain the AC. Be interesting reading the Herald when that happens. Maybe when it's used to wrap Fish'n'Chips !

  7. What a pathetic thing to do . His efforts at dobbing would be better put to potting fizzers and jet skis actually endangering  people. From my recent experiences this is the norm anyway.  Sincerely hope this is the end of the matter. And why not take the $100 donation ?

  8. Shame on the the Harbourmaster who reportedly  issued a $200 ticket to AM for exceeding 5 knots within 200 metres of another vessel.  The cynic might say - easy pickings but not me. Pity there was no such enforcement over Anniversary weekend  when there was real endangerment by speeding vessels of all kinds in various anchorages. . Many would have been thrilled to have been aboard the ferry and chipped in for the fine. Typical selective enforcement ?
