  1. I am trying to become a member of the Farr Trailer Yacht Association, but their registration page has a problem and despite trying to contact them a few times no one has got back to me yet. Would anyone know how to get hold of them. I am really keen to be part of this association and also get advices but no luck so far. Thank you all.
  2. Yes that's right. Alloy trailer seems a plus. Apparently the rudder needs a coat paint, tidying up wiring but working, and by looking at photos the hull may need to coat paint too at some stage? $12k seems expensive especially also as the outboard is only 4hp... may jump and have a look at some stage. Ideally I would prefer to pay a little more and get one in excellent condition...
  3. Still on the hunt for a suitable Farr 6000. But meanwhile, to feed my thoughts since towing weight will always be a challenge I realised we have not talked of the idea of going a little small like a 17 or 18 foot long???
  4. So actually the one in Nelson seems best option. It may pay to be patient I guess... meanwhile I shoukd better get on board of someone's yacht at Waikawa Yacht Club to learn the ropes. Anybody had any thought of suggesting to do the Day Skipper course from Boating Eucation to get all the safety tips?
  5. This one seems a nice option: https://preview.trademe.co.nz/motors/trade-me-motors/boats-marine/yachts/trailersailer/1146458461 Not too sure if it is well equiped what more it would need. Outboard excluded so woul have to count this. Any thought?
  6. Thatvis a lot of work and as much as I'd keen to refurbish a yacht I am far from having time to do this... I am definitely looking for somwthing in good ready to sail. Cheers
  7. Yeap my point of getting a TS is that the family cannot be bothered sailing we could just motor around quietly or even in some cases leave the mast at home and cruise around simply. But ultimately I really want to sail but if getting the damily on the water means motoring around mainly why not?! Would you suggest that the young could still be an option. I have been sold the farr now but have say the hassle and potwntial costs related to the trailer makes me keep the young in the back of my mind... would you consider the young as very stable?
  8. Do you reckon it is something doable to fit brakes on a trailer which does not have any originally or too work so not worth it or simply impossible??
  9. Good tip to avoid car corrosion... a trailer extension could also help I guess to avoid dipping the back car wheel in water? Now I will quietly do my home work to try to axquire a decent farr 6000, and will try to get madame and I into learning proper sailing! Thanks all for all this great learning.
  10. Actually going your aa link shows a maximum of 1400kg braked like it is indicated on my tow bar...
  11. Thanks all. I am overwhelmed by much I learnt in the last 24 hours over this forum! That's great! Now I think I feel the TS path is still tge way but definitely need to get madame happy so trained too! Now I am a bit hesitant about the whole towing capacity... ok? Not ok? I will get a quote for a transmission cooler and see how it will go. Meanwhile I will keep questioning the seller of the farr6000 to get a clearer picture if if it is a good option or not. Thanks all and please keep on feed with posts as I learn heaps!
  12. It is definitely hard to find the right compromise! I find this Young 6 really appealing but not sure of the trailer. The seller is planning to bring it up to Hanmer Spring in September as that where he lives. So I planning to inspect it then as it is not as far, hopefully still negotiable and available then. Matt, do you think Young 6 won't really do well in the Sounds...? Cheers,
  13. Thank you. That is not good news then. Changing car was the last thing I was planning to do... Not sure if there are SUV with better towing capacity or simply only the 4WD path. Then I would be back on the Young 6 if I want to keep my car...???
  14. Actually I missed this one located in Motueka not far! Below: https://preview.trademe.co.nz/motors/trade-me-motors/boats-marine/yachts/centreboard/1123919749 Alloy trailer, hull seems a little faded, all squabs original from what I can see? Outboard is only 4hp though, little too small? What do you think?
  15. Thanks all guys again. it is really encouraging getting all these advices. I think the bonito 22 is out of the reach then... too heavy. Seem to be left with the farr 6000 clearly. The one on TM at $9k looks great as long as well negociated and get reassurance that trailer is in ok condition could be good! Yes i am aiming to get one before the end of winter hopefully! Should you hear of any others around for sale would love to hear! Thanks again
  16. Hi Mattm, thank you so much for offering to help me learn. I think I will take on your offer! I will pm you my contact details... was also hoping in the car to come along with you at 1pm but caught up half way in garden clean up. Are you out every Thursday night. It seems to be the best day to learn indeed. Herr is another link to another farr6000. https://preview.trademe.co.nz/motors/trade-me-motors/boats-marine/yachts/trailersailer/1130679834 I feel you are converting me to the farr model even though I was keen on the young 6! It is true I only heard good things about the farr 6000 and as
  17. All good points thank you! Madame has accepted the idea of gettig a TS as she knows that is my dream. I am to relally find out how much she wilm enjoy though. Cinfort won't be an issue as she is not precious at all it is more the sailing experience which could be challenging. As I said, I give myself a couple of years to experiment and see if we decide to go the step further (mooring??) Or happy with a TS or stop (hopefully not!). Yes I am quite wary that weather in the sounds could change fairly quickly and I am not planning (at least for a start) go very far but more enjoy around some bays
  18. Thank you all for your speedy reply and advise!!! Much appreciated. I understand the pain it can cause to set up mast and rigs but I understand to try to keep sailing on a budget is the price to pay. My view is to start with a TS to experience sailing properly and who knows I could always upgrade at later stage if I have the virus?? Here the link for the Young 6. It seems in very good condition but I am unsure of trailer. I am in touch with the seller. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1126864092 In regards to towing weight, with my car I am not planning to change it se
