  1. Hi Chris, had I seen this I would have recommended "Vesconite" Chatfield are the agents and can / will machine to your specs. No swell with it.
  2. Hmmm I'm sure there was a bar last time I went in, which I must say was a year or 5 ago, the sands of time must have moved on. I know it's a long walk from the super market with a trolley full of groceries, easier on the return trip though.
  3. What is light grey wet and forget antifoul??
  4. just watch the bar when going in ig there is any swell, probably 1/2 tide plus would be wise.
  5. Keep an eye on the welds on the stainless, I have seen several cases of serious porosity apearing after a year or 3. I would sugest dropping the SS if it shows signs of deterioration and only using the 8mm galvanised. if you need the weight of the 15mm SS, use galvanised instead, although 2m isn't going to make a lot of difference.
  6. I am a fan of the M20, moderately ugly, but eminently practicle, probably the most spacious of the ones in that size range. The look is most likely the reason for the price difference. I think they are still being used as charter boats in the B.o.I. With good sails they sail well.
  7. as faik, the box needed was a ZF 10 of a Hurth 100, both have alluminium bodies.

Has anyone noticed the skull and cross-bones is currently being used on a "pirate Ship" in an attempt to pursuade you to buy a Lotto powerball ticket! And of course we now can have the Nigger debate as well, with Linz planning to change the names of various geographical features using the term Nigger as part of the features name. because someone found the term offensive, I doubt that the complainant was made by a Negro? Possibly a pom, or maybe a yank or a frosch, or an Ittie, or maybe even a pakeha. Plus you and I won't be allowed to run aground on a "Niggerhead" anymore. My son works w

That flag does look a bit homemade to me, the swasti being a strong hindu symbol probably goes to the centre of K/me's life, his Wa!
  11. Ditto Tuffy Luffy, I have 2 x 200l tanks, 35 years old, I did open them up 10 years ago, but only because I wanted to inspect them, I replaced both lids as there was some minor pitting on the underside, not sure what had caused it. We have used clorinated Auckland / Whangarei water to stream water from the barrier, and whatever we could get up in the Islands. No issues.
  12. Some years ago we had a load of Balau decking delivered from Placemakers, before we used it we noticed some fresh saw dust under the stack. Contacted local MAF man who was very concerned, he contacted the guys further up the chain to come and have a look, 2 weeks later 2 guys showed up, had a cursory look at the stack. we showed them a grub that we had extracted from a plank. They shrugged their shoulders had a cup of coffee and left, Their only suggestion was to return the wood to placemakers, which we did, was the wood destroyed? I doubt it. Placemakers gave us a replacement lot of Kwilla in
  13. Do we hear of other areas / countries having problems, maybe because they are new to NZ a balance hasn't been found yet. I remember when the Pacific arrived and colonised almost every possible surface, thay could attach to, now 50 years later many of these areas are clean of pacific oysters, probably because a natural balance has been achieved. Plus the native oyster is starting to re-appear.
  14. look at your heat exchangers what could appear to be a poor pump may well be blocked tubes. On the photo above you will see the line where the squeeze plate (for want of a better word) meets the body of the pump, and the screw hole for the screw that holds it in place.
  15. To be able to re-use the plate get some emery paper / sand paper, put the paper on a flat surface and rub the plate using even pressure, you will soon have a flat (although slightly thinner) re-usable plate. Mind the end of fingers though.
  16. It is the same old cry, the powers that be need a scapegoat for their inability to control unwanted organisms entry into the country, be it Med fan worm or Asian gypsy moth, or Aussie fruit fly. They are blaming yachties by inference for the Aussie fruit flys found in Whangarei. Yet just how many yachts came in from Aussie is a question never asked. I would doubt that there were any, or definitly in single figures. the usual route for visiting Aus by overseas yachts on the Pacific milk run is after visiting NZ not before. Yachties are not a particularly cohesive lot. Many individualists, there
  17. cut the roll bar off it will still work.
  18. attached is a short idea of what the NRC is asking of yachties.
  19. Some pumps do have a replaceable wear plate on the inner face. If it is a Jonson pump you will find that the piece that compresses the impellor is a replaceable part. It would be to diificult and expensive to machine the final shape. There should be a small screw directly above said compression point that holds the part in place.
  20. replacement prices of these pumps are horrendous, maybe a time to look on line? Had a look on Amazon, there was one for a volvo 350? $180.00 US.
  21. Lanz were bought out by John Deere, Lanz made single cylinder tractors well into the late 1960's if not into the 1970's. I think they got up to around 65hp.
  22. Unfortunately I am a Country member so wont be there, Maybe another Whangarei member who uses this forum and is going will respond. I know from trying to discuss the situation of foreign bodies (marine) coming into NZ waters and ending up on yacht hulls with MAF folk at the boat show, there is no discussion, they know best!! I have had a reasonable run with the last lot of antifoul I applied, (Hempel Millie Dynamic Alu.) Went to get some for this years antifouling, only to find they have had to remove it as the spec has apparently been banned in NZ. The same product ticks all the Aussie
  23. There is a Nog and Natter at the Whangarei Cruising club tonight starting at 1900, with a NRC rep there to inform you / us as to what you / we need to do to deal with marine organisms and your obligations to be compliant. bar open and nibbles available.
  24. There was a comercial boat in Whangaroa fairly recently that was found to have fan worm, it had to go south to be slipped and cleaned, B.o.I? or Whangarei.
  25. I have heard nothing at all in regard to inspections etc. They NRC) are working at building a marine empire so it may be on their wish list. Fan worm is in Marsdem Marina, as well of most of the other hitchhikers that have arrived on commercial shiping over the years. Having a holding tank is a must, unless you have either a composting toilet or an acceptable treatment system.
