The carefully worded press release praising each other from Burling and Dalton has been somewhat washed away by Daltons more recent public comments. Yes the Royal Yacht squadron has done a neat pivot away from  Ineos and backed Bens Athena racing as their team. Who really is interested in the cup ? The racing was not of top quality last year (the womens was of far better quality for those that got to see it) I hope the Italians get the venue they have stuck with it all along and are worthy recipients

As predicted AC38 in trouble, Auckland would have been super- though I agree no public government funds should be handed to a private racing team with all the shares held by one person .

Perhaps the government  should have backed the Councils money towards putting on the event , rather than topping up the coffers of the defender. Still its all moot now with the challenger of record pulling out and unlikely to be held in the next best place -The Solent .  Only Italy and the Arabs now left in the mix for Dalts to sell to....

They have specifically made it onerous for clubs/ members to opt out using their form -so most clubs wont entertain it . Of note lately are the numbers of members bleeding from the gold plater clubs to their local or even more economic town based options ...

What happened to this race ? Saw them milling around before the start and perfect sailing conditions up to the Mairangi turning mark but they never came up the bays -not even to Takapuna or the H28 mark at Milford ? Was it North Head to the Viaduct?

As noted above -not the first J boat to have lower bearing failure leading to unmanageable ingress of water, the old IOR shaped glass yacht essentially pumped her mast through the bottom , and the Aage Nielsen yacht -well our multi skin Kauri yachts are a lot stronger from the same vintage -thinking of the Brin Wilson built S & S boats for example.

Unfortunately the formulation has changed since my last application (3 years) its thinner not nearly as porridge as it used to be and goes on almost glossy -never before seen that, I too was v happy with the green that slowly went bluish in the past. Yes low salinity and various street run off polution does help (5 years in Milford creek between applications)  Many years ago I witnessed people mixing up there own brews- the issue that struck me at the time was, and still is, many of their 'ingredients' were rather more toxic to humans than barnacles and they were splashing it about with gay abandon .The garlic was interesting but not convinced helped....

Certainly as noticed this weekend Altex No 5 has been watered down lately , having been a very happy customer for 25 plus years I seem to have slime after two months not had that before.....

Ac38 seems to be in trouble, challenger of record melting into acrimonious court cases , no venue, no rules yet , unless you are a billionaire trying to offload large amounts -who will be a sponsor of such an event ? or potential team ? Yes I know the hoards from Auckland that went enjoyed the event but that could have been anywhere , and it really has no connection to the yacht racing that most of us regularly engage in.
