  1. That’s pretty interesting. Seems against the intent of the rule, but maybe they should have worded it better?

Or maybe it was designed that way? So challenges from big countries with legit governments had to do it the hard way and small or corrupt countries, who don’t tend to be amongst the best challengers anyway, can sneak in this way?

  2. Are you advocating compulsory females in the crew?

I’m not sure what you are getting at.

I believe eTNZ just picks the best person for the job. And it seems that is usually male. Often from a strength perspective, but presumably a skill one also.

  3. I’d imagine if the best helm we had was female she would be included. Generally the physical demands of top level racing are too much for females in other roles on the boat though. As in, not many female graders around.

  4. For the ANZAC enduro race, the cruising division is allowed to bring children under 12 along. This is no extras, so not super serious, and trying to encourage more boats out for a long weekend (this year it is May as ANZAC day is too near to Easter for people to want to race)

But for the triple series I can’t see it being allowed. Although I do agree it is of no help, definitely a hindrance.

  5. That’s pretty cool rainbow chaser. How do the virtual sailors usually do against the ‘real’ sailors? I’d think that real sailors would be knackered and struggling to do as well as virtual? Or is that not the case?

Gale Force went out yesterday and tested and practiced with trysail, storm jib and reefing. Getting close now.

  6. I’m excited. Or is that nervous? Or just sh*t scared?

Never been down to Stewart Island, but couldn’t think of an easier way than grabbing a mate and sailing down (Although, now that I think some more, there may be easier options...?)

Quite a close fleet in terms of performance, I suspect titanium will have a bit of a speed advantage on the rest of us, but other than that the rest will depend on conditions and placement on the course, so could be some very exciting, close racing. 48 hours into the Akarana 350, Katana, Gale and the Squealerboat were rounding Poor Knights side by side.

  7. 'Windy'...brilliant! Just looked at Windan, yet again, nothing above Dorkland!

Pretty sure BoI, Cape Karikari, Cape Reinga, Hokianga, Kaipara, Tutukaka and Whangaruru are all north of Auckland/

Try clicking on 'Auckland' and selecting 'Northland'

  8. It was mentioned that RAYC has 4 long races to choose. White Island, Three kings, Yates cup and now the Akarana 350.

So next year likely to be a different one to this year. Also probably a good qualifier for the following years RNI race.

I loved how close the racing was, for such a long race.
