we need to find more speed in pressure upwind and reaching forward of the beam and am struggling against the 1050’s with updated keels plus they have a smaller rating.

The drag penalty of a larger rig may be a big part of the issue, rather than the keel?

i have receipts from when Gales keel was done 10 years ago.

  2. I suspect he just meant you are quite wrong Sailing NZ and based on results, Burlings are perhaps better.

DC has ‘only’ a Bronze medal from the Olympics, not a gold.

Ainslie has a ‘few’ golds ;-) but not the success of burling in the AC (yes he won with oracle)

Burling has 2(?) olympic medals, countless world championships (in more than just the 49r), a very comprehensive AC win as skipper and a podium finish in the last volvo.

As for you not rating the 49r. I dont rate your opinion or fact checking skills, Mine are heaps better!

  3. As a society we have had plenty of chances to show we can be responsible. We fail constantly. We deserve to be locked into our houses and not let out.

By ‘we’ i mean people in general. Not me, not you probably. In fact prob less than 5% of the population, but those knobs will still destroy the potential gains of the lockdown.

  4. I did a fiji race and a hobart on this boat with the original keel. We gave the boat a solid thrashing, lots of heavy upwind work.

Sounds pretty horrific for the crew onboard. Had to swim out, and then skipper(?) had to remove his lifejacket and swim under to retrieve raft.

  5. Its impressive how they did such a horrendous job of updating a useful app into something that is completely useless.

Clearly not designed bu someone who had ever used the old app, or had any knowledge of how people used it or what they wanted to see.

  6. I often hoist my main at the mast, tie a slipknot when up and it stops against slot in the mast. Then go back to cockpit, pull tail through and winch knot out and last half m of halyard up. Thats on Gale Force, so pretty much the same size.
