Ta for spelling. Seems there are two versions. The family there still goes by Chamberlin I think.
Pleased Oranga Bay is good. Feeling jealous and cut off from my boat until my stolen dinghy gets replaced.

So how was it? Note spelling Chamberlins Bay.

I saw these words in my email subject list and for a joyful moment thought there may be a neat solution to the noisy neighbour problem. Oh well, hope springs eternal.

Make sure you don't go to hospital for a triple bypass operation and overlook an email from the lovely people at STF Limited. They have a contract from Auckland Council to run the boatyard known as The Landing at 10 Takami Drive, Orakei.
I overlooked an email reminding me to pay my rental for dinghy rack 85 next to the toilets.
This afternoon when I went down to use the dinghy to get out to my boat in Hobson Bay my dinghy was gone. So was every little bit of rope and chain etc. Not only that but the whole rack had been cleared of old dinghies and broken inflatables. It had all been swept nicely clean. It looked good.
A nice man I met there who was putting his dinghy away told me it had been cleaned up. The security guard said it was probably done just before Christmas. Nice. I wish they had phoned me.
If anyone knows where my lovely old rivetted and waterproof and unsinkable (styrofoam buoyancy under three seats) parkercraft is, please let me know. Oh, and the oars and ropes and nice new marine Abloy lock.

It refused to do anything for me. I typed in a couple of place names. Nothing. I clicked on hydrography. Nothing.

I'd also err on side of caution. Sailing downwind for newbies can be quite deceptive. Because you are "in" the wind you don't realise that it might be pretty blowy. Accidental gybe would not be pleasant. Buildup of waves behind you can also be tricky if there's wind against tide. I wrote a paragraph in my story about sailing back from Kawau to Auckland: https://kmccready.wordpress.com/2014/06/30/sailing/

Couldn't help noticing your pegs. I learned about pegless loop clothes line as a volunteer on Spirit of New Zealand (drying 50 peoples gear quickly in a breeze is a breeze). Here's how.
https://theboatgalley.com/boat-clothesline/As to noisy gensets I really feel for you. One of the banes of my life. I would probably have rowed over for a convo.

Yesterday I took my compass from the grab bag to use it. It was stuck and a great big bubble prevented the card from rotating. I shook it a few times and it was still stuck.
This morning I picked it up again to research the problem and the big bubble has broken into smaller bubbles and it works again.
I really don't want to be stuck at sea without a working compass. And my father in law's old handheld marine compass from the 1930s is still working so I'm a bit miffed. Though of course the plastimo is heaps more accurate in getting a bearing.

7 is a bit high. The Harvard Grant Study says you can have a prize if you get 0 for 5 years in a row.

PS I'm happy that the environment comes ahead of recreational boaties, what a radical idea. FFS.

BP, flog everything? How long does it take you to heave to? It's a part of my briefing when people come aboard and I make sure they can do it.

NIWA tide forecast is useless too unfortunately

Workups from the chart and predicted tide times will only ever get an approximation. It's an NP-hard problem in fluid dynamics and depends on such things as temperature, atmospheric pressure, local winds, freshwater flows into estuaries, far off storms, whether you're vaccinated etc. I learnt a bit about such workups as a volunteer on the Spirit of New Zealand which I highly recommend to everyone. In other words, it's a bit of an art that also involves local knowledge. I'm afraid I don't know what the error margins are.

Keep an eye on this

I also left little notices on boats asking if they wanted to sell.

Now I've seen everything. I used to have a pedal operated canoe (hobbie with fins with soft trailing edge ) which was great, but this???

Is that Richard Gladwell? Have you got a link to Sail World NZ or is it on the same website as Sail World.

Grief
in MarineTalk
"Grief is a broken heart that the head can't heal. Slowly the head and the heart understand each other. They smile gently and walk on together."
Good luck. It's always with you but morphs. Get some counselling if you think it will help.

Do we know who it was that got caught, and rightly so, trying to take their boats out of Auckland's Level 3 to Coromandel?

Even more cautious option would be get crew onboard and literally all live on boat in marina for 3-5 days nobody goes ashore - pretend you’re at sea. Then skipper alone steps ashore to check out and off they go. Really minimising the risk.
MIght want a very big holding tank for the heads

Agree on the private operator problem. When I phoned Auckland Council they didn't want to know. I finally tracked down the council officer with responsibility for the contract. She said I'm new in the job I know nothing. Seems she gets paid an enormous amount too if her job title is anything to go by.
