Na I think its way to big in diameter. You need about 60-75mm.

Fast as hell and priced very reasonably!

Also got a house and a Sun fast 3600 to sell as well......

Im looking into the idea of purchasing a boat in Europe and sailing it back myself with the family. Have done some maths and I think it will work out OK financially and make for a cool family adventure.
While I agree that most of the production boats are not built as well as a custom built NZ boat, they are still great boats that are built strongly and engineered well with a lot of very cool features that the older NZ built boats dont have. A huge amount of boat for the bucks.
In reality there are very few failures with euro production boats considering how many of them are out there. There are many 25+ year old beneteau's, jeanneau's and other production boats stil being use all around the world.
People used to say the same thing about Cars.......
Just look at the Jeanneau Sunfast 3600 for example, showed its speed and durabilty in the RNI race (and many others) which is considered the toughest race in NZ. Had no problems at all and was pushed hard. Great boat and I was thrououghy impressed. Its for sale too by the way!

Perth based rescue team not yacht.
-
I guess we could look at another division for that if there was enough interest.

Hobart is actually much harder if you are at the top end of the competitive racing fleet. Sitting on the rail for 3 days is not easy especially in a southerly buster. The level of competition is pretty damn high and its bloody hard work. Probably pretty easy if you are just doing it for the challenge and not pushing so hard.
They are very different events, RNI really is an endurance event, you not only have to survive the sailing but also the stopovers.... And again its all about how hard you push (both on and off water activities). Some peoples perception of 'racing' is very different to others.

12nm to go to east cape for us. The wind lightened a bit for a while but now we are punching into 22kts again with a sharp chop. Been a challenging leg right from the start...
Looking forward to bearing away in a few hours!
-
Yup delayed start. Zero wind for us.
-
The observations lied. There was no wind at kidnappers at all. 5 hour park up for us actually....
Good result for us though in the end.
-
Jet broke the main halyard apparently.
Pretty tough leg, mostly light winds for us and we missed out on the hammering the boats got yesterday afternoon. Lots of damage done around the fleet. Nothing for us luckily.
-
What an epic achievement. Legend.
-
Yeah its sure looking like a driftathon. Should be some sea breeze in the afternoon I hope before the light SW fills in.
The sunfast is fully loaded and ready to go now. Been a big few weeks of race prep! Now looking forward to getting out there.

She does all the weather briefings for the offshore races and does a very good job. Knows what she is talking about and I lean something everytime. Would be well worth going to.
-
Sure they have the divisions zero and super zero (wank wank),
Was that comment nessisary?
Would you rather not have those boats racing?

Someone asked about xtra costs over going for a cruise
$1000 entry fee
$1000 med kit
x? for a new drogue
Sat phone
Extra cost to enter Aus in Mooloolaba (not a port of entry)
Parking in Mooloolaba (we normally don't go to marinas but not a lot of optoions there)
Raft inspection
More solar panels. (must have two methods or charging).
And the killer for me was the LZ curve nonsense. The designer is dead so I'd have to pay someone else to produce the curve for me, although they did offer to tip the boat over instead. neither option appealed.
I was also looking at a new sail but as pointed out that could be amortised, but what's the point of doing the course if you aren't sailing at your best? If cruising I prefer to go slow.
I've probably missed some, but I got to $20k over and above the trip I did last year to Fiji for fun. For a 10 day race that's $2k per day just to go for a sail in my own boat.
So are you saying that alot of that stuff you wouldnt have done if you were just cruising?
Life raft unserviced, alternative means of charging, first aid kit, drouge (certainly needed if going with a small crew), sat phone.... all sounds pretty reasonable to me.
The only thing there that really looks like just an extra cost for the race is the $1000 entry fee, the other stuff surely is needed for any trip offshore?

Damn I will be halfway around the north island. I enjoyed the solo division last year. Pretty painfully light race but a great challenge.

Give me a call or text. 0212222143
They are up at my in-laws place at the moment but I will try and grab them for you soon.
-
Yup I have a wooden sunburst mast and boom. 5.4m long. You can have them. Pick up in stillwater.
-
You can get the windows off Keith from acrylic solutions. He's a boat owner too.

Pm sent with bobs number.

Was talking to my brother last week, he is on his way back from Antarctica at the moment on an aussie icebreaker and was bashing through some ice as we spoke. Sounded like it was tough going with ice often getting into the prop causing issues. He drives the smaller expedition craft for the landing parties.
My mum and dad were on the Akademik Shokalskiy that got caught down there a few years back on their way back form an expedition. They all needed to be evacuated after the bow caved in. Then the Chinnese Ice breaker got stuck going to rescue them and the French and Yanks had to come and rescue them all... Was an international debacle with the Yanks having to save russian (with UK and Aussie scientists) and chineese ships...
They then had to carry on for another 2 months on the yanks ice breaker as it carried on its mission to resupply the bases down there. The Russian boat they were on made it back to dry land before they did.
It was a bit of a shambles and some huge drama unfolded afterwards about the original cause of the first boat getting stuck. I read my dads report written for the Australian antarctic divison, interesting reading and was used as some major evidence in the investigation on the incident.

They were on board as representatives of the Mawsons hut foundation to alloy entry into mawsons hut in Comonweath bay. My dad goes down every few years to keep the hut standing. He also built the replica in Hobart.
The russian ship never made it to comonwealth bay because the ice was too thick but they kept trying against my dads advice and ended up getting stuck (this was the big debate). But the real funny thing about this is that my dad and 2 of my brothers had actually sailed a little 34ft roberts design yacht (Snow Petrel) right up Commonweath bay to mawsons hut a few years earlier.

There is a good one in picton called KJL sails run by Kent Luxton. Maybe give him a call as he often goes down to Christchurch or you could send it up to him.
Night sailing+no moon+rain=unpleasant?

I often find with no moon that near the city an overcast night is actually much brighter than a clear night. The loom of the city lights actually provides plenty of light that gets trapped by the clouds.
