are they going to make it back before it gets horrible out there?
-
How much does body weight come into play?. The boat and rig still weigh the same regardless of crew weight.
^^ this what i was thinking. the rig in the water can be kinda sticky though
-
I thought the issue was the predominance of home built jobs and the impossibility of telling which ones were a complete liability and which ones were bombproof.
That, and given the floor has fallen out of the used boat market in that type of age bracket, there are soo many options with less risk / better value for money. It looks like guys are starting to struggle to give away some boats at the moment.
yeah someone's comment in another thread about 88s going for ~20 recently really brought home the reality of the current market.
-
i seem to recall that this topic comes up from time to time. I suspect there are some old threads to be found.
-
I put a stereo in a customers boat this year that can draw 116 amps! 6 Amplifiers and 16 speakers. Anyone top that yet??
did you also put in a gps tracker so that we know which bays to avoid?!
-
i'd hazard a guess that increased costs are also a big factor. not as cheap to keep a piedy going as once it was.
-
ah i wondered what was going on down there. seemed like a lot more than the usual activity!
-
All I know was that damage was done in attempts to right it by the CG. Think an ama was broken. There is probably more info on a historical crew thread if you are keen to know more.
yeah i found the old thread actually. big mess. didn't see any blame attributed to CG, though...

still fairly unpleasant out there i should think.
anybody want to shed some more light on the TW righting controversy?
-
wow. anybody know how they power the foil control? and all the rest, come to that. one guy doing a bit of cursory grinding occasionally isn't going to get you very far i shouldn't think.
-
i just mean that i hope their charity sale goes well. what their base price should be, i make no comment.
-
no offence, but I hope they get a lot more than 1500 for it!
-
getting distinctly blustery -- gusting 60 at tiri now. not an excuse for that event though.
-
personally i like the promenade, and the design seems reasonable. it's a nice space that can be used for more than just a car park.
-
I thought the results looked like they favoured waterline length.
Interested in others view on that?
Would make sense. A lot of sailing at displacement hull speed...

How does a kite surfer get CAT 3?
Where does the put the liferaft?
Flares?
Does his LJ have a light on it?
Infact, navigation lights?
presumably that's why the dedicated chase boat is there.
-
yeah it'll be interesting to see the kite and frank. kite is fast but way lower.

Vodaboat just went past us at kawau
they're looking good now, should lay through and doing ~ 20kts

can't say I'm terribly surprised. It definitely seems to be stuck up at times, too.
On the whole, though, I'd say that the bridge does a pretty good job of allowing boaties and pedestrians to share.

More like $160k
if you secure it against your house, sure. an actual boat loan, though?
-
Yeah I guess you can service a decent loan for the price of a marina & the increased costs of maintenance on a boat living in the water.
definitely. 10m berth + annual antifoul, what, maybe $8k? call it debt service on $80k?
-
I had a good experience having odd shapes cut, for a non-boat project, at modern plastics. They used to be at victoria park but seem to have moved out to ellerslie now. On the shore maybe psp plastics?
-
yikes. i guess that explains why the marinas always have such high $$ liability insurance requirements!
-
does look like a lot of space for the $. does suggest something about the condition, but I have no specific info on that front.
50 foot monohull twin jet launch.

continuing the drift, I doubt that 6l/nm is an issue if you can drop 2 mil on a boat.
also, l/nm is a fantastically terrible set of units.
