Yuck. I'd always imagined those moorings were really only tenable in the summer. By which of course I mean real summers, not the last one!

80s for sure but exact year? Dunno.
See if you can get hold of a copy of this:

At a guess I'd say the SR26 is in there but can't remember for sure. Auckland library has it.

I'm shocked. Just shocked. Who could possibly have imagined this fate?

Kawau bay is the latest and the men from the ministry are taking immediate action haha. Wait, if we do get a summer here again I for one will be ignoring them and I cant see anyone else taking much notice.
You mean the north channel bits, or more besides?

Not good news, obviously. But looking at the map of the CAN area I reckon they've tried to keep the recreational impact down.
-
Much ado about nothing I suspect. The important people (NZDF) will have known all about it, but that doesn't include the CG Kawau crew.

That photo looks terrible. I loved riding that ferry. Has the offender been identified?
Can't imagine there's any hiding from this one.

I don't hold much store by the herald's journalism for the most part, but I can't imagine they've got the direct quote wrong.

I like the winery at man o war. The bay itself is rather indifferent as an anchorage though.

Woody bay pizzeria is amazingly good. Hope they cope ok with the rubbish summer. We couldn’t quite believe it was there, but what a treat. Best pizza in Auckland?

Plus looking at the forecast, beating into 30kt of southerly off the west coast doesn't sound like my idea of a good time.

Could it be we are in the eye???
No the eye is staying offshore. Auckland is just not that exposed because Coromandel is in the way! I'm sure E side of coro is not nice.

You definitely want the bridge open when you can, not a blanket closure. Think, for example, hospital employees who live on the shore.
So far it's definitely a bit of a damp squib. Maybe the decision to close schools was the right one based on the forecast, but as I sit here cooped up in the house with the kids (and the in-laws) while it's neither windy not rainy, it does look like an overreaction in hindsight.

Good on both of you. I’d have marina as option 1 and Opunga Cove as option 2.

Best decision. I’ve never understood why this simple precaution is not taken by everyone, nor insisted on by the Marina management. At the least it reduces windage on the rig but a few years ago one of these storms clipped Tauranga and the (small) number of headsails that unwrapped was hazardous.
I'd bet good money that if you have a look at shoal bay late on Monday you'll see one unwrapped.

Forecast is still extremely nasty. Get tucked up somewhere safe, sooner rather than later.
-
I'm seeing big se going south. I'd go boi. You could always go the easy route and jump in the marina.
-
Now forecast below 960, more or less direct hit on the Hauraki Gulf.
All I can say is I hope the forecast is wrong.

Good News, the PHRF requirement has been canned and they're using racetrack and whatever other means they see fit.
That should double the entries right there.
It's a great idea and it would be terrific to see all the non racers out there once a year but I'm not sure they'll turn up at $150. Cross fingers.
Good.
Maybe by April summer will have turned up?

Anyone know who's this moored boat is? (Torbay)

I'm sure I remember someone telling me about a boat that came off a mooring there in an E/NE blow and ended up what seemed like halfway up the cliff when the tide went out.
