Splice vs Knot

Unfortunately they didn't show the slow mo back far enough to see the knot when it failed. But most likely, as we have often found in testing, the Knot would have slipped and when under 3000+Kg of load, the heat from the friction instantly heats and melts the fibres and causes them to fail.

As you also see, the line fails close to the best possible place, being along the actual line and not the splice itself. That means the splice was done well. Although in that vid, it appears to be right at the bace of the splice, so there maybe a small amount of splice causing the line to go at that point. Once again, heat created from a minute slip can take the fibres over breaking point in an instance.
