benny14 6
The 2014 Swiftsure International Yacht Race starts Saturday 24 May, 10am PST (5am Sunday NZT). I'm doing the race on Marda Gras, a Santa Cruz 52. We had a shakedown race last weekend Round Saltpring Island, where we managed to rip a headsail, the A2 and break the carbon reaching strut... This week has been busy getting to boat sorted, and we're in good shape for tomorrow. There is a race tracker if anyone is interested, link below: http://www.swiftsure.org/race-tracker/ I ran a very basic route using QtVlm last night and it shows us doing about 37 hours to cover the 138nm out to the bank and back, winds are looking pretty light, not sure we'll make it back for work on Monday! There are 187 yachts entered for the four possible distances, in a number of divisions... List is below: http://www.swiftsure.org/registered-yachts/ Will try to put a race report together next week and let you all know how it went...

Bill 0
Swiftsure is the major international race in the Pacific Northwest. Although run by the Royal Victoria Yacht Club, a large percentage of the entrants (including Marda Gras) are from the USA. It is a big deal up here.
