DrWatson 311
Plenty of time to avert that... Someone just trying to squeeze another position on the leader board? I've seen it in AKL enough...
barry 4
It seems to me the yacht was completely out of control due to being overwhelmed by that squall, you can see the genoa was already starting to shred well before the contact with the ferry. I would suggest that the ferry master could be as culpable as the yacht master with regard avoiding the contact. Looking at the boat I don't think it was a case of trying to squeeze another place on the leader board, I would suggest the people on the yacht were fair crapping themselves.
PaulR 3
Once upon a time, many years ago in the past, I was told and cautioned that the Sydney ferries have a "local bylaw" giving them the right of way. How true? I don't know but it seemed like good advice at the time. They may be over 500 tons but my scales were out of balance!!
Island Time 1,089
Yep, the ferries have right of way. Seen them hit a few sailing vessels... In this case the yacht was not really under command, IMO.
