Zozza 295
Fellas, I'm installing 2X12v 100ah AGM deep cycle batteries in parallel to make 200ah at 12v combined with 100-140 watts of solar panels for my modest electrical requirements (no fridge or freezer, biggest draws - when in use - will be auto-pilot and electric anchor winch). I'm installing the batteries aft under the cockpit, essentially where my inboard engine used to be (removed and replaced with outboard), Are there any safety concerns with ventilation with AGM's? There will be some air flowing through that area when I have the companionway hatch open, but when not aboard and boat's stilling closed up there won't be any regular fresh air. Some google searching indicates I don't have a lot to worry about, but I'd like crew.orgers views. Thanks in advance lads.
erice 732
afaik the main AGM sensitivity is over-charging don't over charge them and they won't vent and you don't want them to vent or they'll lose water which can't be replaced so just make sure your charge controller is set up correctly http://forum.solar-electric.com/discussion/4712/agm-battery-chargers-vs-normal-battery-charger
Island Time 1,246
Yep, treat them well and no problem at all. DON'T overcharge!
Zozza 295
Thanks IT and Eric. Have got good quality charge controllers / regulators, one for each solar panel.
