Guest
Are you out there Woodley? They might have something about the Port Starboard rule...
Richmond 2
Another beauty incident last night with Charleston and Volvo MRX at rough rock buoy. We might be bursting at the seams with people that need this seminar. Don't forget bar will be open from 6.30pm to come and share some stories, then seminar starts at 7pm. See you all there!! JK 28
Occured just to windward of us. Appeared that Charleston had to bear away in a gust & Volvo was below them.
Guest Rocket
Maybe they could include something on obligations of outside boat when passing a continuous obstruction and theybasic responsibility to avoid collisions... Pretty silly stuff last night.
Guest
rule 14 would be a good start. avoiding contact.

Guest
This happened on Tuesday. Yeah I know, they're the worst drawn boats ever but you get the picture. This is approaching the finish. Does the leeward boat have to give room? Is the finish buoy a mark of the course at all? I've seen this situation in match racing where the leeward boat took the windward one outside the finish line but they might have different rules.
ec12nz 1
This is a really good site to see rules in action. http://www.ukhalsey.com/RulesQuiz/quiz_list.asp
BelowPAR 0
The fairway markers/moored boats are obstructions right, but when in a line like that does it become continuous? Or because you can sail thru the gaps, without changing course from a boatlength (or something like that...) it never does? Could be a useful seminar ...
Guest
ec12nz - cool link. Broke - I'll have a try. I believe the finish should be treated like any other mark (which does not include the start). So Mark Room does apply; Mark: An object the sailing instructions require a boat to leave on a specified side, and a race committee boat surrounded by navigable water from which the starting or finishing line extends. An anchor line and objects or an object attached temporarily or accidentally to a mark are is not part of it. Section C [Mark room] rules do not apply at a starting mark surrounded by navigable water or at its anchor line from the time boats are approaching them to start until they have passed them. When rule 20 applies, rules 18 and 19 do not. Mark room applies in the zone, so possibly the matchracing scenario you are thinking of involves a leeward boat luffing a boat which is overtaking it to windward, outside the zone (?). Not the expert so stand to be corrected on the above. Re last night's race, just to provide some contrasting evidence to the above, we went around North Head and the, um, torpedo beacon (?) 4 abreast most of the time and it was all very civilised.
