Life advice for your children

Recommended Posts

Just before Xmas no2 daughter went to job interview.  When she got back told us she really didn't want to live there.

This morning they offered her the job. Glamor job in a world class institution.

So, swallow the rat and take it, even if only for a short while, or keep looking elsewhere......?

She has 2 weeks to reply.

Yes. After much discussion and some excellent advice under the table from someone already employed there, she replied to them asking to defer for 12 months so she could do a fellowship at some famous art museum in Amsterdam. Also asked for more money, a job for her partner and a few other things.

Sent the email off thinking that will be the end of that. 24hrs later got a reply saying yes to everything. Much hilarity from the family.

So she's hoping to do the fellowship and is waiting  to hear from two other institutions she's applied to ( turns out this contract is more a letter of intent , voidable at any time). Worst case she'll do a few years at Cornell and it will look good on her CV.

Meanwhile,  like the good Dr she's hoping to visit NZ in July when the border reopens and she has finished her thesis.

All in all not a bad outcome, even though she's still not excited about living in the US.

I think her preference would be Europe,  she's fluent in French, Italian and Spanish, not bad at Dutch and I think she's working on another.

She can sail, yeah? …. I need crew for a week in June…
