markm 30
Definitely. Whoever decided that Spain was the place to base a 2h RTW race made a fairly good call. It's certainly created interest in Spain that's translated into entries and sponsors. That and the idea of it as a 'shake down' race for the Vendee seems to get a good few more entries making for a pretty interesting fleet. Will be interesting to see how the newcomers to IMOCA racing cope with the Southern Ocean and if the front people push the limits as hard as seems to be the case in the Vendee. Battgirl 23
Surely its the sailing "must watch" for the next 3 months - the longest 2handed race on some nice boats with some nice crew. To see Mich Desjoyeaux, one of the shorthanded masters doing it at 46 is pretty cool too.
Absolution 7
Nice to see Virbac-Paprec at the pointy end, another fine kiwi built boat. Foncia has snuck past since last time I looked though. But what about Hugo Boss? Are they just too heavy and slow to get through the light stuff? Sure they have enormous power for heavy airs reaching but they are already more than 400nm behind so I just can't see them catching up.
