SloopJohnB 322
From Sailkarma KIWI 40FC BTBoats is a newly established NZ company, aimed to market and distribute a new all NZ Class 40 yacht. BTBoats is proud to announce that it has recently commissioned Farr Yacht Design Ltd. to design a new Class 40 yacht. The name of this first all New Zealand Class 40 is: KIWI 40FC. Cookson Boats will carry out the yacht's construction in their premises in Auckland. Lapo Ancillotti, who has a long history of collaboration with both Cookson Boats and Farr Yacht Design, will be the project coordinator and marketing manager for BTBoats. "Farr Yacht Design's outstanding record in IMOCA 60 racing over the last two and a half years makes them an obvious choice for a Class 40 project. The recent Cookson 12mt and Cookson 50' projects that I have worked on with Cookson Boats and Farr Yacht Design, have been both enjoyable and winning projects. I look forward to this next successful collaboration. The Class 40 potential, combined with the design and building challenge, convinced us to undertake this exhilarating project. Class 40 is both unique and dynamic, and we are thrilled to be involved" - said Lapo Ancillotti. The first KIWI 40FC is due to be launched in August 2010. A dedicated website will be available very soon: www.btboats.co.nz

Bit like those Z39 flops but on a global scale maybe? 2 built and a raffle for a third that was cancelled due to lack of ticket sales.
ScottiE 174
oh I think they'll build a lot more than that - just won't end up with many here

Dibley 3
What would yours look like?? Haven't played with a Class 40 yet... But maybe one day soon. I've never gone by that classic quote from another designer "do you want a good looking yacht, or a fast yacht?" You can defintely have a good looking AND fast yacht... I wish the venture a success, but I think the market will be offshore, not local.
Guest
Ahhh Kevin, take a happy pill. Lapo has been involved with Cooksons and Farr forever. Any Kiwi who moves overseas to further their career is still a Kiwi. Any overseas person who moves to NZ becomes a Kiwi (except when there is sport on) Its just the way it goes. Guest
Just like the C40's but only for poorer people, hence far more likely to be seen in Akl Be very interested in your thoughts if you get a moment and feel inclined. Cheers, KM
Guest
hey guys I was lucky enough to do the class 40 worlds in Cowes this year and they are awesome boats! We were only allowed 5 crew, so there was always something to do, trim, bow, main, pit, water, tactics, and everything else that happens. we had one day when the breeze was under 10knots and for the rest of the regatta we pretty much had a reef in the whole time, or 2. I would love to go out 2 handed on one of those.
