DrWatson 380
Well, I went for my first sail of the "season" on Sat. Water temp was about 9°C, which is bloody cold. I know because I fell in I used to scrub the bottom of my keeler in June in Auckland. Took about 30 min. That's about how long it took for the shivering to stop and the inability to speak to start. And this Saturday the water temp was enough to make me choke. Wetsuit didn't help much. But I used to sail winter races in a keeler in the Hauraki wearing my wetsuit. For me wind is fun up to about 35knts, then it gets tiring fast. Depends a little on sea state, heading and size of yacht etc, and if you know that you'll be anchoring in a nice bay within a few hours, or if you'll have to keep going all night. Keep a thermos full of mulled wine in the cockpit
Guest
If its raining, cold and onshore wind forget it. Offshore wind can be strong and fun as long as its not raining.
