Guest Posted June 9, 2012 Share Posted June 9, 2012 My father-in-law was in the race in his 35' sloop Wakarere. Lost her forestay when the southerly hit and they retired to Kaikoura. His brother and partner in the boat never set foot on her again. This race put Southern keelboat sailing back at least 10 years. It was the 1960s before you saw fleets of that size racing in, say, the Cook Strait Race. and I think the next race south (to Akaroa) took place in the mid 1960s. Link to post Share on other sites
