cep32 4
With the Javelin now gone I've got a year or so to find a replacement that is more suitable for young children and shallow water. I had initially thought a Hobie 16 would be the go but am put off by the low volume hulls as I am a fat ass at 115kg and I want to be able to take mates/wife/two kids (not all at once) on it. All of the photos I've seen with two adults on-board have the hulls looking like they are almost submerged. Is there anything else out there that anyone knows of that I should be considering instead that would suit a relatively modest budget? Could a paper tiger be modified to sail without boards for shallow water? They seem to come up cheap relatively often and have some decent hull volume.
Guest
A PT's not going to point too well without centreboards. Also, if you're really after a beach cat, a PT could be a bit fragile without real care. If you can find one, a Buffalo or Windrush 14 might do the trick.
Variant 2
Maricats are also a great option. I took kids on it, went well and felt safe as. Also took 3 Adults, which felt like max load.
