banaari 27
OK, this newbie needs some more education... (No comments from the cheap seats please!!!) This relates to the reinstallation of the stanchions on a Beachcomber 6.5. As far as I can discover, the mounting holes through the deck have NOT been given the filled-epoxy, re-drill treatment. Also, sticking various sharp implements into the material leads me to believe the deck core might be plywood not balsa, but I can't be sure. (a) Anybody know, reasonably definitively, what the deck core material ought to be, or typically is on these boats? ( If it is plywood (and it feels like it might be)... how do you go about the spinning allen-key trick to bore out a void to take the epoxy? i.e. it isn't easily reamed like balsa or foam. Battleship 100
It is very likely ply, would be hugely surprised if it's foam or Balsa. You can just to drill a larger hole, tape the hole from the bottom and fill with epoxy glue then redrill a smaller hole inside the epoxy, it is a bit time consuming. You could also use everdure or similar to seal the ply provided it isn't already damp.
