  1. Bow was facing into the sun this morning so photo not so good but you can see the other cheapo Chinese made roller welded to the bottom. Will try for a better pic later.
  2. Quite agree, it is now. The 100amp cable supplying the master switch is where it is now connected on the battery side. So far so good.
  3. Same anchor as you and same problem. Took the entire forpeak bow roller out and butchered a cheap SS power boat roller by cutting off most of the rear tang and then welding it to the existing roller but at a down angle. A lot was guess work and eyecrometer but works a treat! Supreme does not bang the stem anymore, no rattle and easy to turn when it comes up backwards. Will get a pic for you soon.
  4. Thin, 14mm I think. It's a green belt and never an issue slipping so far. Of interest, left the eastern arm and moved to the western arm and this is the plot from the batteries. Decided to run the engine at higher revs when pulling the pick up, not at idle as vertually no voltage drop despite winch running. Think I found the problem however, connection to the battery sense wire looked a little dubious so have moved it to the battery side of a 400amp master switch. Time will tell.
  5. A cheap Chinese device (One that works!) that goes over your battery terminals. Download software on a smart phone and there's all your history, think it stores up to 2 months worth. Shows charge discharge too in real time...$40.
  6. Where did you get your alternator cooler? You reminded me of something, the belt. It's a single ribbed type from the US and never slipped once during the full 120amp (plus?) overload.
  7. Thanks Jon. My thoughts too, is the battery sensing wire reading the winch supply? Spoke to Graeme this morning and just off the phone with Maxwell to see if they think we need to run the engine a while before running the winch? Seems strange that it's worked well for about a year then twice in a few days its tried to cook the alternator.Attached a couple of screen grabs. Dec9th shows twice we ran the winch and voltage under load dropped to 12. Today's Dec12th shows what happened this morning, 11.9v Maxwell seem to think nothing strange but if the batteries are a bit low, run the engine a whil
  8. Anyone else using one of these? Had the thing for a year now, good for charging batteries but lately it has been trying to melt our 120amp bosch alternator. Found the battery sensing wire fuse had blow, 250ma and replaced with another but its done this before and fuse was fine. Is it possible to simply draw to many amps? Our 1000w anchor winch and charging of 280ah of battery all at once from a float voltage of 12.7 is too much for it? The alternator 'sticks' on full output even after the winch has stopped. Doesn't happen all the time and this is the firs time we found the sensor fuse blown an
  9. Drat! You are saying the secret is out!? "Is that a still I see before me!?" . "Umm, it's a new kind of crayfish cooking pot...officer".
  10. OK,we admit it, we are in posession of FINE art.
  11. Very enviromentaly friendly, doesn't work but looks good!
  12. I ' spose for you guys anything north of Auckland is "foreign"..
  13. Thanks! Worth a try as trying to fill a tank when it runs out in 1m waves during a sou'wester ain't my idea of fun!?
  14. Yep, saw that Cazzate, let me know how it goes? The trouble I see is it wont work with a tender, the fuel tank has to be higher than the outboard tank as its gravity fed? although would be good for a laugh for others watching me going along with a fuel tank sitting on a frame above the dinghy! To run in a small tender it still needs a fuel pump which defeats the purpose because you then need a power supply to run it. One way I have been thinking would work would be to have a hand operated air pump on the external fuel tank? Pump the tank up then fuel would flow happily into the outboard tank,
  15. Did I hear right? On the radio this morning, the AC talking of $23 per metre charge to anchor off Auckland!!!? OK, they are talking "super yachts" but is this the start of something sinister going on? User pays going viral?
  16. Anyone ever converted a small 2stroke outboard to external Tank? A couple of trips around the harbour and its time to fill up again and as usual, there's a chop and a sou'wester so fuel everywhere. Tried siphon fillers, same prob. Got a 12v pump which works but then we have to cart that about in the ding. It's a Merc 2.5 so I am assuming the engine itself wouldn't create enough vaccume when running to draw fuel up from an external tank?
  17. Another horrible day in the eastern arm Whangaroa...the Coastguard just fixed their water bouy yesterday, I wonder if this guy will pay his $10 donation?..
  18. Turn it upside down...a premade reef!
  19. Yep, but the "horse" was completely clean and antifouled prior to racing north, have our wash certificate and not asked for it yet and seen a number of fouled large vessels sharing the western arm with us. No enforcement, a losing battle. There has been a lot hoohaar about on antifoul developments but still nothing, only weaker products than ever before so the government departments and science in general have been caught napping. Good report. Thanks.
  20. Yep, consensus of opinion here is its a bitch to get rid of. Was a bitch to get the new tank in! So its not coming out anytime soon. Have ordered a fuel pump and plan to setup a filtration system, a pre filter and filter water separator with a pressure gauge and every so often circulate the tank through it, the gauge to show when the filter need servicing. I must admit, I didn't expect a polythene fuel tank to allow condensation but it must have. Bloody thing has no inspection plate or sump for draining so cleaning the fuel y best bet.
  21. But...No fuel bug right? So must be working? Just got our parcel from All Marine so off to the fuel dock this morning. What is odd, cleaned the elcheapo Chinese inline fuel filter that had clogged enough that the donk was losing power before coming up to fungarowa. 10 hours running later still clean. 20ml fuelmaster going in today, see how it goes.
  22. Seems the "message" was sent several times and ignored. Habitual offender and 18 months not long enough.
  23. That boat was found just out from Russell boating club. Forget who told me but they are wasting money fighting the inevitable. All its going to do is delay or slow it.
