    Lotus 9.2

Mine has had a bottom job, but yes definitely get it checked out. Some of the home finished ones are still good boats. Some are still expensive but with their age there is a vast difference between good and bad. When we were looking, some of the things we encountered you wouldn't want to leave the marina on. This is the same for a lot of the older Kiwi cruiser/racers. still plenty of good ones out there, just have to be careful.
  2. We ended up buying a Raven 26. Had that for 13 years Awesome little boat, dragged the wife and 2 kids all over the Hauraki Gulf and northland coast. You mention a Cav 32, again a very good boat. With the age you just have to be aware of osmosis, that includes the H28 as well. We owned a Cav 32 for about 6 years, our hull was used to make the mould for the Aussie built Cavs. You sometimes end up with arms 6ft long after reaching in fresh conditions. Very comfortable sea boats and not that slow if you sail them correctly. They don't like the main being over sheeted. i found the biggest negativ
  3. Do you have a specific design of boat you may go for after the Sabre. I changed the rudder on my Sabre so that the blade was plumb. Made a big difference.
  4. I agree with you sabre. Whatever happened to to joy of achievement when a goal is reached through hard work and effort. By the way, we owned a Sabre 20 for 6 years many years ago. Had a lot of fun with it, but when 2 kids come along it appeared to shrink and it was time to move on to something a bit bigger.

Did the ride on the 9.2 ever happen and if so, how did it go
  6. You have one that cooks pork roasts at 30 deg angle. I think i might have to do some retraining.

Unfortunately this was a problem in a lot of Kiwi production boats of that era. A lot have probably had bottom jobs by now but is a good reason to engage a reputable marine surveyor when purchasing a second hand moored vessel. Insurance companies also require a recent survey certificate before they will insure the vessel and insurance is a requirement in all marinas now. There are still a lot of good older kiwi boats around that have been well maintained or had significant upgrades done.

Have owned a 9.2 for seven years. Great boats. Very dry for a 30 footer, stick a bit downwind in light airs. Other than that they sail really well. We have owned. several yachts over the years and the 9.2 would be the best balanced by far and stands up really well and very seldom will they pound like a lot of more modern boats. Easy to sail by 2 60+ year old's.
