  1. NRC are also trying to stop kiting in the estuaries (where no one else swims because NRC have let dairy pollute it). These estuaries are possibly the best wind sport spits in Nz.
  2. Now going to sell her -She will be very realistically priced for a quickish sale and wanting to sell her before I have to bring her North. I'm hoping to get a boat in time for the WCC winter series so really soon!. Survey report available to interested purchasers. I'm not going to be silly with a price either so if you know anyone who's looking please let them know, the could get a great boat for very cheap. Will put her with a broker in the next week or two as I'm a fair way away from the boat. PM for more info!
  3. Thanks, might be keen on the assorted spars then. Also the Delta 3m for the kids when the picks go up.
  4. Keen on the tube.... do you reckon it would be ok to make an s34 spin pole out of?
  5. Fixed that and other things on it. Slowly tidying her up. May yet bite the bullet and spend the money sorting her for racing.
  6. Can't figure out how to post pics but can email them if you are interested.
  7. Boats called "Pania" Circa 1968. Got a few quirky tales about's it construction as most Stewarts do. Not really a racer.
  8. Long story short is that the wife isn't so keen on sailing so I'm looking to get a smaller boat for shorthanded racing and the like. I'm looking for a decent Sr26, Ross 930, E7.9 or the like for racing and some cruising - smaller and better set-up for shorthanded racing. I'm also interested in a GBE oddly enough. My Stewart 34 is set-up for cruising and has the raised forced. Has a fairly recent '09 I think Furling Genoa and pretty old but serviceable main. Lectra San toilet, compressor freezer, hot and cold pressure water and 2 showers (cockpit and up front). I have a surv
  9. Just seeing if anyone has an unwanted but tidy Mainsail for an S34 they want to sell. Just bought a cruising S34 and on the list is a new main in the next couple of years. Family cruising and the odd rum race only so doesn't need to be race ready.
  10. I'm selling my Tracker as I'm now on the move to Auckland and want to buy something a bit more racing orientated. The Boat is called Hounddog and has a fractional rig making it a wee bit quicker than the normal masthead rigged boats apparently. The boat is on the piles at kissing point. She needs a bit of work, namely a sand and paint (has the Altex no.3 problem) and the running Bukh DV10 engine needs an Alternator - I'm charging the batteries off the the 2 x 5w solar panels installed. The engine is due for a service and I have all the parts (filters and impeller) already so if you
  11. I checked her out last week, fairly tidy condition. Not so sure about cruising her but got a rough quote of circa $5k for a tent like on the NZMYC website. Stuff all accommodation in the hulls, good for storage but. A full tramp tent would be huge. Have no idea about racing and stuff, for the $$$ she is a lot of fast fun. Not quite what i need sadly.
  12. So I really like a Townson 28 so will have a close look. It appears well maintained (thought the interior looks dated). The consensus I'm picking up is that if it's been used and loved it could be a good sound boat and provided i keep on top of it all I should get a plenty of years out of it, but be prepared for a bit of work if stuff goes bad? If the boat checks out, I'll get a survey put over it and if that's all good then maybe a good sand back, paint and new squabs down below and I may be looking at a good family cruiser. Then again for not much more coin I can get into a D28 a
  13. Ahh so survey, survey, survey, survey, but worth looking at then?
  14. So my search for the right boat continues. As much as a Cat appeals parking is an issue and the convenience of the local pile moorings is appealing, so back to looking at monohulls. There's a couple of interesting boats that are GOP (T28 and a Young 30) that I'm thinking of looking at that leave a bit of cash left over for other bit's and pieces. I'll be getting a survey done but would love to hear from experienced Crew.org people on whether these older GOP boats are worth considering. I think Spencers are the same construction too?
  15. One final question before I start to look at boats, can you fit a tiller pilot to a cat (I'm thinking for short handed passges mostly under engine power? And if I bought something like "this way up" and wanted to cruise the hauraki gulf or Bay of islands, is the coastal passage parts pretty easy to manage shorthanded (or single handed). Racing, I'd get a crew together no worries. Sorry for all the questions, just have no idea how a Cat bigger than a hobie works and I can't get a ride on one or look around one up here!
  16. So I'm seriously leaning towards a GBE for the cruising aspect, maybe I'll look at "This Way UP". Not to worried about about class type racing as there ain't that many cats in the WCC fleet anyway. How do the bigger cats end up upside down? Is it the same as the beach cats? The only time I've tipped over on a PT was a beam reach then hitting a big boat wake, burying the leeward bow and coming to a sudden stop in 25 knots.
  17. I'm quite interested in This Way Up as well, can anyone tell me a little bit about this boat? A little bigger it would seem but maybe a more hardcore racer than a GBE type beast?
  18. Definitely keen to look at one, but am tied up this weekend, thanks heaps for the offer. I'll pop down to Auckland in the next few weeks to check out the boats for sale though, the info is great and I think a GBE ticks the boxes so will keep an eye out. Euphoria could be on the list
  19. They look good, perfect even, but just a question, how forgiving are they in cruise mode and do they take well to being depowered/detuned, I.e reefing very early etc. or do they turn into dogs when under powered? Any other things to bare in mind when using a GBE for family cruising? I'm also not sure what a good price for a tidy, ready to rock GBE is - will a budget of say $20-25K get me going?
  20. Cheers mate, spotted Euphoria and it's another option. I'm not quite cashed up (will be in a fortnight or so). I noted that in the ad Euphoria may need a bit of work to get sailing, is that right? I'm in Whangarei so will need something that can be sailed up here straight away is all. It's a good looking boat though. Also the osmosis, is it a major on a GBE to fix that up?
  21. So I've spent a season in a Tracker 7.7 (my first Keeler) but it is too slow and needs a bit of work so I'm committing to getting a different boat and upgrading, sailed PT's and other beach cats and I kite surf so get apparent wind, planing and speed no worries. I want a bit of a multi-purpose platform, with racing and day sailing in the harbour being the main usage but being able to safely and comfortably take my 9 year old away for a weekend adventure. I don't mind roughing it camping style. I may be asking too much, but it would be great to have a boat that can be a summer time G
