  1. So this would be suitable for a Yanmar SD20? With a 27hp engine
  2. It's looking like November is busy, good to get the feedback for which ever time slot appeals.
  3. That documentary was amazing, very sad and a reminder that the sea/weather can be very unforgiving at times.
  4. Thanks for the feedback, it would be nice to get some more. I heard of a possible 3 leg race in that November time spot that starts in Akld then stops in Tga, the next leg up to Bay of Islands, followed by a return leg to Akld. Anyone else heard of that race possibility?
  5. The Tauranga Yacht Club is considering moving the A2T race to November, maybe 2-3 weeks after the Coastal Classic. We would like some feedback on what fellow sailors/racers think, looking at the Akld calendar it would be after the Gold Cup and starting on a Friday. It is probably too late to run it this year but I was thinking about 2016, running the event in late November should coincide with more favourable weather conditions.
  6. I see a Young 12 on Trademe has one of these fitted, anyone know of the costs and performance of this unit, it has some good ideas such as an electrically powered tender that plugs in whilst on deck. A way towards the future??
  7. A final touch to Time Warp is the carbon toilet made by Riaan (Marine Plus), he is investigating making some more for keen yachties by making up moulds etc., still a labour intensive process though due to the intricate shape of the crapper.
  8. Thanks Pete, the keel looks to be similar but with an added bulb to the existing keel. So there are no problems or any mods with this extra force of this bulb on the keel/hull structure?
  9. Keel photos that show current keel design and profile.
  10. Ptown, I think your inbox is full as I can't send you a PM
  11. There are so many variables, alright, I thought with the number of 930's that have had keel mods, the different designs etc. may have brought out some good ideas. Apparently some 930's with standard keels still outperform the "upgraded" ones, so it is hard to decipher what the answer is, some original 930 keels aren't too bad though making for variations in comparisons. A 1034 keel is a basic fin keel and around 26 yrs old.
  12. Thanks KM, I have been talking to a marine foil specialist and he thinks the same. I am organising an inspection for him to assess the shape etc. Looking more likely after seeing what's involved with a keel upgrade.
  13. I was looking at not increasing the righting moment to reduce structural changes that may have been required, thinking that the ballast would be less to give lower overall displacement and the foil profile change would improve all around sailing performance.
  14. This method looks good as far as transferring the load more to the hull structure, thanks
  15. I am considering replacing my fin keel with a bulb keel on my Young 1034, anyone got good ideas on how to attach it to the hull and strut design? There must be several 930 owners who have done it, I think my boat doesn't require hull reinforcing as I want to use the existing keel mounting holes/bracing.
  16. Great skills KM, and good spotting! That is a fold down boarding step/platform. It has a lot of innovative/unusual features (and primarily functional) I would say that a Gyro Gearloose type person would be proud of! Even the anchoring system is included in that list KM !
  17. Time Warp had it's first sail on Tuesday for a charity regatta, not sure of how things went but it is at last out on the harbour with it's sails getting the systems worked out etc.
  18. No Coastal this year, maybe next year. Knowlesy (owner) may put some details up. As you know there is a lot of detail work involved in a build, especially in this project, that stuff all takes time but everyone at Tauranga YC are looking forward to its first sail outing. The main things that I know are that it is real light as its full of carbon, nomex and titanium! It has good headroom and built to be cruisable. It has a lift keel for dodging sandbacks in Tga Harbour.
  19. I missed the launching but Time Warp is in the water and awaiting its mast.
  20. Yes, he has a fondness for dangling off trapezes, nomex, carbon, titanium and more carbon!! It may not be sorted for the Coastal though.
  21. Here we have some more progress photos courtesy of Marine PLUS boat builders - John and Rian plus another craftsman who have been finishing off a real interesting project to a high standard. Launch time is Sometime !!! Follow the progress on https://www.facebook.com/MarinePlusBoatBuilders

    Ross 35

I've looked at a few Ross 35s (not 1066) including Manxman (that is a nice example) but found that the 1/4 berths are like caves and awkward to get in there. Also, the front berth is a bit on the short side plus the cabin height a bit too low with some having strenghtening ribs at a dangerous height. I went and bought a Young 1034 which is similar in size but far better in all those areas I have just mentioned and has a better layout IMO.
  23. It's been a while since I have down that way, I didn't know about the Paua World in Carterton. I love the rugged coast past the Palliser lighthouse - can you still get past there and get to those giant rocks to camp beside - they're amazing.
  24. Looks like you did a road trip down the Wairarapa Coast, first to the Castlepoint Lighthouse and then Cape Palliser lighthouse. the toilet seat could be at Lake Ferry, Ngawi or Martinborough but that is a tough one.
  25. Some more progress has occurred - looking good. Twin rudders in place, vacuum infusion happening, the keel is an unusual shape but I'm not a keel designer.
