  1. Which GBE? A lot of the 8.5s run 8hp, which can be a bit marginal when snorting, but I have not had any trouble yet. Go long shaft, whatever you choose. I have a Yamaha 8 long shaft on voom.
  2. My father in law was telling me about a stainless one he had, mixing of metals would cause a standard element to quit unless than a week. So if choosing ss, make sure all compatible.
  3. Just to claify, i was talking about children racing by themselves, not with adults. skippers responsibily, whether the skipper be 7 or 70.
  4. Nope. If you are old enough to race, you are old enough to be responsible for yourself. Different story for learn to sail of course.
  5. No problem with tris graham, my last boat was a tri. I just meant the space on te kooti is pretty awesome compared to small tri like the trailer tri or capricorn or the other one he was looking at. The space on the bigger farriers is pretty impressive.
  6. Te kooti is a nice cruiser, far better than any little tri.
  7. when i was a kid, we towed an opti everywhere. had a seat that fitted into the top of centreboard case. Basically a 't'. worked well.
  8. i like the way they give out prizes before you start. Start: Thursday 26 November 2015 Time: 0900 hours Prize Giving: Sunday 19 November 1015
  9. is there doubt on the auckland regatta?
  10. Looks a good list. I'll not be able to do wednesday unless I can find a babysitter, and not able to do squadron weekend if not member. but keen on the rest if possible.
  11. voom has been back on the mooring since Waitangi weekend. Was just there for the summer cruising period. Since you came out a few years back, there is now new rig, new rags, new boom, new hard deck, new hatches. Same boom tent though. Awesome as always. Unfortunately have unloaded all the cruising gear off the boat. In terms of seeing her up for cruising with kids, we have one little one, and as she is not crawling yet, all pretty easy, not many mods needed. Biggest change was taking a collapsible bath and a lot more water than normal She slept on deck under the boom tent in her b
  12. Interceptor is now owned by a gent called Nick Dunn, still in wellington.
  13. not really payback in june, we still go winter racing....
  14. Glass tube glued in with ends rounded and some boat cloth to seal up the ends. Added a carbon plate on outside of hull, between the holes so lashing would not dent or 'cut in' to hull skin. Main and jib fine unless racing. I have only added decent screecher a few months ago to my inventory, not at issue 95 % of the time, but that 5% when I didn't have one, we would get smoked!
  15. it pretty cool to see a lot of boats have gone through massive changes. Timberwolf, dragon, voom etc. And look at the heads on all the old mains. Roach my arse.
  16. In the middle of the front beam, there is just a ring, with a spinnaker pole beak i the prod. easy to clip on and off. Down low on the bows, there was a u bolt that went through one side of the hull. It was causing distortion, so I removed the u bolt, fitted a block of cedar into the bow (prick of a job) and drilled right through the hull. Inserted 2 tubes, and bobstay now lashed through the hull. as in, goes from the inside, through to outside, then back through the other tube. Works well, no leaks, better load distribution. Agree with freedoms comments re sails, but if you were aski
  17. Dunno about famous, infamous might be better term...
  18. Yeah good question Scottie. I know you own one, I know it floats. Does it sail....?
  19. Dont worry about the loose leeward shroud, mine get super loose at times. Rig is designed such that it should not be a problem
  20. well, not confirmed yet, but I hope it is true.
  21. Hi Aaron, Not much advice given is there! I will chuck in my opinion if its of any use. Firstly, I'd skip the sundowner, hard drive would have similar negatives, but a lot more positives (faster, bigger, lighter). Hard drive is pretty competitive in 8.5 racing, so if racing is of interest, that would be the pick of the bunch. You only scare the family if you try to. reefing down early will help, and the lack of heeling is nice. If more interested in cruising, the tribesman will have more interior space, but I have no idea on performance at all. If cruising on the sundowner or hard d
