  1. Great comment shedman. There are other locations as well, Milford being one. Like KM alludes to, this is a vanity project being pushed by personalities behind the scenes who simply don't care what Joe Bloe in the street thinks..
  2. Cure to that is quite simple: Renew the lease And with 4 out of the 6 elected board members supporting the park, that just got more likely. Go the campsite! Balgarion, I reckon you're dreaming if you say that the support for leaving the campsite in place is not widespread. From my personal contacts, and what I have seen on facebook, and in the press, public support for the campsite is huge. The YNZ plan stinks of backroom deals, and plush offices for those at the top, right on the water. I want to see the campsite stay, and for many more thousands of Kiwis and overseas visitors to
  3. Balgarion, I objected to the Council's idea for YNZ. I am not small minded, love sailing and have a son sailing. I just think that the campground is a unique slice of NZ not available in many major cities, and should be preserved. Takapuna has hosted many world champs without issue including the Laser and 470 worlds. They had no problems. The ramp is fine for support RIBs and the beach is great for the yachts. Personally I would like to see the ramp and carpark extended with a floating dock, as it gets extremely high use from fishos and yachties alike. That plan was proposed some years ago, b
  4. When I asked at Takapuna BC - there are none. When I asked at Milford BC - there are none. When I asked at WBC - there were full, weren't sure if a 5m dinghy would fit and I'd be put on a waiting list which I'd be on for some time. When I asked at Murray's BSC - there were full and the waiting list long. Your assertion that they'd be more facilities with more money I'd question as regards existing clubs. Both WBC and Murrays BSC are on small bays where beach space is at premium when things get busy in summer as bathers and strollers need access too. High tides are a nightmare BTW. An
  5. Yup. And I was very happy to see that. Maybe with elections coming up they are getting a little gun-shy?? I for one, won't be voting for any of the current crop. Not one... It's a no-brainer...
  6. That's a huuuuuge amount of work. Big ups to you!
  7. The Caravan park has gone. Crying shame, and the Councillors concerned have none. The whole thing stinks of dodgy dealing in back rooms. I think there are a lot of Yotties who think this was a very bad call as well. Even elite yotties.. They have just killed off another bit of North Shore heritage, and it will no doubt the camp site will follow the other local icon killed off, the Mon Desir and benefit a very few. These people are short sighted IDIOTS.
  8. Good article with interesting quotes. As a submitter on behalf of retaining the campground, I will be watching the decision with interest! Despite being a yachtie and having kids who would love then high performance centre there, this idea focuses to intently on one group in our society, whereas the campground caters for all, and really is a little gem, that has no possibility of being located anywhere else on the shore with a similar position.
  9. Bloody hell Wheels. It's the Starship Enterprise!!
  10. What a can of worms!!! I bet something similar happened when the horrible Mon Desir apartments were built as well... That was a shocking decision which got rid of another icon of the Shore, the Mon Pub..

    liveaboard

Bayswater Marina in Auckland has perminant live aboards.. Plenty of them in fact!
  12. Completed the offshore survival course at RAYC with #1 Son. Both passed. Phew!. Just got to wash the chlorine out of the wet weather gear now.
  13. Murrays Bay yacht club have a full design and proposal all complete to remove the current club and move it to the house behind it creating more public space in non regatta time and more rigging space for regattas. The previous Nth shore council was behind it, just needed $1M or so to get it done... No, much better to trash the camp ground and put in the stupid high performance sailing centre. Dumb.. Also, there was a plan mooted some time back to extend the ramp and breakwater and put in a floating dock, as this is a VERY heavily used facility, but this was knocked on the head by Greenies as t
  14. The dark antifoul and stripe looks great mate. Sounds like you are well on the way...
  15. Very nice Grinna! She looks a million bucks. Is the engine work all complete? No problems? Nice to see the progress.
  16. Crap post Paddy!! There is a brilliant sailing facility right on Takapuna Beach called "Takapuna Sailing club". They already hold World championship events and have hosted the Laser worlds, radial worlds, Splash worlds among others, with no problem. They have storage at the ramp as well. They normally have a parking area of the ramp roped off for their RIBs when these events are held. The motor camp is unique and raved about by punters from around the world. I've never seen the "League playing Monkeys" you refer to at the camp. It is kept tidy and attracts all kinds, but cert
  17. I disagree with the marine centre at Taka entirely. I reckon the motorcamp there is a gem. It is classic Kiwiana and loved by all. The Taka boating club has heaps of space and there is enough space there for massive regattas. Don't bother with it..
  18. But your recent track record in that department..................................???????????? Nah. They're all the same. You could get a 100% clean bill of health and lose the rig the next day I reckon.. Ask Mr. Roosevelt..
  19. Bluudy hell! Wasnt she on the market for about $250 - 300k a few years back? I seem to recall when i was shopping for a reasonble 40+fter she was on the market at that price. I think back then Urban Cowboy? (Ross 40 in Tga) was on the market for $150k , but in need of major work. I had a look at her when the Marshall deal looked like it would fall through. They wanted 198K then. Very tidy (and fast) boat with not much to do that I could see...
  20. He's back ladies and Gentlemen!! And it's TOO much KM...
  21. You were funny up till that post...
  22. Quite a grandmother Grinna!!
  23. I reckon I could have got my current boat cheaper, and I have spent far more on it than I ever thought I would, and there is still heaps to go. And this was a boat in good condition! Would I change the decision? No absolutely not. I have had some great races in it, some cool cruising, had a steep learning curve, scared myself a few times, and met some great people who have crewed on it. I took ERSATZ's quote pretty much word for word and applied it at the time... No regrets Another 10 months and the finance will be paid off, then there's just the mortgage!! If I hadn't bought the Marshal
  24. Sounds like you had a great weekend! Keith is a good guy, And is willing to give lots of good advice, no matter what the boat Ask Keith about Brock's big race. Just up from Green fleet, tail end charlie all regatta but then had a blinder in a light race on the last day. 5th around the top mark chasing the 10th best Opti sailor in the world.. Both Keith and Brock didn't stop smiling after that!! Held on to finish 12th.. Not bad for a 10 year old!!
