2012 Nexus Gold Cup

Recommended Posts

Disappointing day on the Akatea, after nailing the lay line on a very fine start line, we had to dip an Elliot 7 who tacked onto port right in front of us, and to compound the problem, we then had to make another emergency dip on Nosaka who also tacked onto port right in front of us! A dangerous situation, and some very average sailing!

We then ended up with the top of High n' Fibre's rig straight through the middle of our mainsail. They were trying to dip us...

Still, I suppose a torn mainsail is better than a couple of T-bones....

Yep, that about the story of our day!

Man, I'm amazed we still have a mast. The bow got lifted out of the water and the stern submerged so much that the lifering and buoy floated off the pullpit!

A very crappy situation but at least there were no injurys or holes in boats!

There is a bunch of protests lodged from different parties (including us), as I understand it.

Bit unlucky for you guys, as we had to alter course fairly dramatically which probably caught you guys off guard?

  • 2 weeks later...

Weather forecast has built slightly now too! Even better ride back from tiri! Just not so easy getting there in a light 26 footer haha.

"Rising to northerly 35 knots in exposed places during morning, tending northwest in the afternoon. Rain, briefly heavy, easing to showers in the afternoon"
