David Witt interviewed re: the MOB

Recommended Posts

Well worth a watch, also some revelations about the future of the race. Volvo is out.

He reckons a return to the traditions of the race.

Also doesn't pull any punches on the VOR65 calls it a dog.

Yep, tough time they had. And a crap boat for the job, it doesn't look after the crew well, and is not particularly fast - the Vendee Globe boats are better...

I still wonder why John Fisher wasn't clipped on, but seems like it was the jybe that did for him anyway...

That was easily the most honest and open interview I've ever seen.

And informative as the future of the Volvo...

His comments about the corinthian or corporate sailors, just wanting to race around the world for the adventure, that really reasonates. This edition is the longest race, 47,000 nm, with the most stops, very hard on the sailors, and demanding on the sponsors... It would be great to see the race go back to its Whitbread roots, pro crews on pro boats, but also the guys out for an adventure of a lifetime...

I can see the race going down the path of the IMOCA's, still allow leading edge boats to be built, but you could get an old IMOCA (like Conrad Coleman did) and race around the world...
