  1. Very sad yesterday to see a beautiful yacht broken up by a digger and off to landfill. Te Arawa was a Stephens design(presume that is S&S) of about 41' that had seen no maintenance for ages. Some planking had worn against a pile and deck had a hole from a pile, but could have been saved. The Naval Pt Marina wanted her gone (too big , and danger to their structure) Unpaid mooring bills? Surprising just how little worth saving-dinghy, few blocks, lead, was about it.. Impressed by how roomy below, and no wineglass shape, very much Vee shape and lead about 18"w / about about 12" high. Reputed
  2. Thanks for all that. Now I had hoped to go up mast via the anchor winch but the 60a breaker tripped out quick. 600-800watt old NZ winch. 2;1 purchase on the halyard. So to go up mast do I need a gruntier winch or do I need a bigger circuit breaker? Thank you
  3. Any recommendations for them, for emergency start they would be invaluable. And failure to start is a bad nightmare. Anything one should know?
  4. Hi, shunting this to the top so the offers are not forgotten
  5. I measure the standard handle at 17mm, and need a 7/8' handle
  6. Thanks Ed. Will look at some hex headed bolts and see if possible to fab something
  7. Didn't know they came in big and small (and not talking handle length) So how scarce are the big ones? Do they come up on Trademe? Need a big one for a big Nilsson winch

    Engine too hot

Well, had a hose jammed into the header tank with about 2' of head, and there was an almighty burp and hot water flying and since then all good. Must have been an airlock in the system.

    Engine too hot

Thank you. Belt tension good. Will check out the thermostat is working correctly. When pump spun by hand a couple of bubbles appear each time in header tank. But it just doesnt feel right when spun, backwards or forwards. Shouldn't I detect something? Have removed the 4 holding bolts and it just wont come off. It will break first . Shoved a plastic hose up the int pipe and gently turned pump but didn't feel anything (it was far enough in to touch the vanes , if they were there. Thanks for those ebay things, close but not quite identical.

    Engine too hot

Am thinking pump stuffed, and the cover plate is go to shatter if I persist anymore at trying to remove. Removed thermostat and no difference. So am thinking how about buying a 12v. water pump? Any reason why that wouldn't work? So what would I buy? Thank you.

    Engine too hot

Little Shibaura 2 cylinder I added a heat exchanger to myself. Now she is overheating. Why would that be? Water coming out of exhaust. Exchanger feels cold.Any tips? Thanks

What is the latest thinking on placement please? Wooden yacht, bronze prop, stainless shaft etc. No anodes at all at moment- about to launch
  19. Is it worth having? Remember in the past the reception was diabolical at anchor. Has it improved at all? Any recommendations?
  20. Used to be, you'd be in the smoko shed and always you'd find pamphlets from Labour Dept with the latest accident reports and what caused them. Nowadays you just see mention of accident in the paper but without any reasons about the cause. So you dont learn anything. Bloody hopeless.
  21. Hi think mast is 31ft above deck (written down somewhere). So need a spinnaker and what length would the luff need to be? Thanks.
  22. What size needed? Room for 2 bags of ice plus milk and bit of food?'
  23. Windward Sails. Paid $1360 10 weeks ago and so far just receiving excuses as to when it will arrive. Always next week, now he says it is in transit. With the excuses so far, I'm not sure I believe him, I'd like my money back. Anyone here have experience of them? This post has had a title change and it's language moderated by site moderator.
  24. My experience- these boxes off Bukhs have a nasty habit of rusting? up. Anyway, if not used continuously, often the box will be kaput
