Brendon 0
http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/75709626/Plush-Wellington-apartments-causing-waves-for-salty-dogs I don't have any connection with this story, but it seems to be a genuine issue. Seems logical that a new structure below the waterline would bounce waves into the marina.
MasterOfDisaster 0
How do they fix it now? Can you put some sort of funky cladding on the carpark walls that breaks up the wave action? Poor old white cav though.
grantmc 59
Someone posted this photo on their facebook page yesterday. Photo was taken by an Evening Post photographer during a storm in 1963. The photographer was standing pretty much where the southern end of the apartments in question are located (they run north/south). As you can see the sea is actually so deep from built up northerly wind waves and high tide that the wall is almost submerged (it's usually 1.5 mtrs higher than high tide). In 1989-90 the western wall (in the photo's foreground) was raised by 1 mtr. (At least I know that my boat's safe in any Wellington storm.)
robinm 2
Ultimately this is the reason Sojournie is now at Seaview - I would love the convenience of Clyde Quay, but I've seen this problem first hand. Those Port Nic 1 and 2 boats of Ocean Sports really bounce around like crazy. Anyone can stand down next to the apartments and see the swell bouncing off the wall and into the marina with their own eyes, I'm surprised there is a question of whether or not it's happening.
